Why do drivers keep IFTA stickers on truck for years?

For most drivers, they're just not interested in spending the time peeling the old ones off.

If ifta ran July to June instead of January to December you'd see a lot more guys taking the old ones off as they put the new ones on. By the time it gets warm (read easy) enough to take the old ones off it falls into the "I'll do it next time I'm stuck in a dock" category, which just like "free beer tomorrow ", never arrives.

Pro tip: stick your IFTA sticker on plain white vinyl and then stick that on your truck. Peels right off with no residue when it’s time for the new one.

Hair dryer helps peel the stickers off.

Depends on who you ask. For me i have a few stacked because of the whole kansas stickers issue through covid namely the stickers were crap and the only way they lasted more then a month was to superglue them to an old sticker then use clear fingernail polish on them otherwise they just faded to nothing or literally fell off. Sometimes both. You will see it on a lot of kansas tagged trucks.

But its also a reminder of everything me and my peice of crap truck have gone through and how many years ive held it together for.

When I worked for Crete many many years ago, some of our drivers got a ticket(to the company) for having more than one. It was big enough of a fine that when the next PM was being done, they took a heat gun to the old stickers and pulled them off. I think it was Colorado where they were caught.

I doubt it was a big enough fine. It's easily beaten in court, the regulations are very clear. However the cost of FIGHTING the bogus ticket is much larger than 15 minutes of a mechanics time.

Along with the mosaic of door stickers pre-ifta, I can remember some trucks have a plethora of different state’s license plates all across the front bumper, and some half way up the grill.

That's a huge D move by the DOT. They couldn't just tell the driver it needs to be removed? F them.

The fine for multiple displayed IFTA stickers is either $100 or $1000...... I believe its $100 though.

With good vinyl you don’t need a hair dryer. Grab the edge with your fingernails and remove.

Just something I’ve always done to make my life easier. Sign shop I use gives me scraps for free.
