    It is.

Their store workers are paid above average wages for the work. Their truck drivers - not so much. 2nd year mega drivers pulling dry vans make more. The only driving jobs around me that pay more than Schneider are night time line haul runs, which come with their own costs. It's why a lot of drivers stay OTR with the megas - they do the math and figure out how to maximize pay while minimizing work.

My guess is with those guys is they go for a walkaway lease knowing they'll never pay the truck off because they just want a 1099 deal to avoid garnishments or judgements. Guys getting screwed over on back child support is a good example.

Sheetz has billboards in OH advertising $41.25/hr to start for fuel haulers.

Being behind on child support can get your license suspended these days, but other judgements they could maybe fly under the radar for a little while on a 1099.

Sheetz pays very well. Good place if you're in the Western PA/Eastern OH area.

Some folks are scared of change. I've seen people stay at job 20 years absolutely miserable, turn down offers just because of fear. Not everyone routinely wants to better their situation.

I worked 7 years for mega company every one puts down. I liked the runs they had because average trip was 1,800 miles plus I knew how they dispatched. Plus as long as you got the loads picked and delivered on time you could do anything you wanted. Driving 1,800 miles was 3.5 day run and that was a little on the short side for them. Best run I did was NJ to Edmonton Canada then to Vancouver Canada. It was load of Orange juice. I got to drive thu the Canada Rocky Mountains and a big national Park in Canada.
