So in other words no passing through the city? Or just pass illegally? Because where I live we have three lanes and trucks aren't allowed in the left lane, only the middle and right lane. In the night I drive in the right lane and constantly pass trucks that are in the middle lane. I'm guessing I should just stay in the middle lane with the slow trucks?

Driving in NC & VA on 95, the right lane has more potholes and patches, like 17 per mile it seems. That being said, I will take the middle lane for a smoother ride.

I agree with this, it is called "Path of Least Resistance". However, in California, with 3 lanes or fewer, trucks are restricted to the right lane only and may pass only if they do not exceed the posted (55) speed limit. I got pulled over by CHP for running in the middle lane, using the path of least resistance theory, but the CHP officer wanted to give me a big fat ticket. I managed to get away with a tacit warning luckily.

It just depends on where im at. A lot of places that are 3-4 lane are more urban areas of course. Im oversize or overweight %99 of the time. When there is a middle lane ill use it to keep from having to move over constantly at merging points. Im usually going slower than everyone, so I try to stick to the right lane if possible.

Random National LEFT LANE MERGES On Inter-states AND Intra-states, so Be In #2 or #3 (4, 5, 6) Lane unless the threat of "running another Vehicle Into a Ditch" is a possible result.
