Like I said you don't have a clue,
Taylor, your coordinator can be a big help. For more than advances for sure. This guy isn't ready to fly on his own. A coordinator would help him greatly. What he needs to do is remember. Where leads were good with the mega and apply it, to me that's the downside of the mega, they don't encourage folks to think for themselves

Those were my thoughts as an outsider nosing around in the Mercer forums. I have NO actual experience with Mercer in any way, shape or form. But, from lurking in the Mercer forums that is where I would look for help...I believe. I feel like they intend for you to succeed and prosper. If your current coodinator is not part of the solution, they are part of the problem. And.... that very same coordinator may walk on water for the next guy.

Something I thought about the other day after reading and commenting here. I believe that if I were in your position, I would find a way to find out where at least freight lane was for Mercer vans. Myself, I would guess an area like Memphis to Nashville to Cleveland to Chicago and back to Memphis. That's a guess, but probably a safe one. I would deadhead to that area if I had to and I would not leave it for less than my minimum rate PLUS whatever money you want for deadheading back to your area. In other words, I would likely not be leaving my freight base. Stay in that area and turn profits until you are financially capable of venturing outside of it knowing the risk. Obviously, I would have no way of knowing for sure what you need to concentratd on. A good coordinator should be able to help you define the boundaries.

    Question:
How does one identify his position on the Board without committing to a load? Or is this even possible?

Two ways. Call and ask your coordinator or when you see yourself matched to loads you'll see where your at on the board on the top left I believe

    Yea that's what I figured.
So does the system automatically match u to loads or is this done by you pre selecting loads manually? I'm home currently waiting on truck to be repaired however just scrolling thru board an I'm seeing decent loads near me that I can actually haul an was just wondering does the system do this automatically or do you have to match yourself to the load by committing to it?

Nope your coordinator will set your pref (whichever you discuss) so you can match. When you go home tell her that your home but you'll still work if you see something that'll make you wanna grab it then maybe bounce back home like local stuff

Hate to spam posts but this is important. lean on your coordinator. Communicate your desires and expectations, and ask if they are reasonable for today's market or if you need to lower them. give him or her a chance to learn who you are and what you want to do.

One that get to know you phase ifs over, it will become automatic. For example, I'm loading today for Texas, a slow area for us, my coordinator has learned enough about me that she knows I would rather dead head than pull a cheap load. So as soon as I was dispatched, without even having to speak to me, she set my preferences up with a far dead head and I'm matching to loads as far away as Birmingham. and when I'm headed to Ohio, a hot bed for freight, she knows I'm willing to be patient and let good loads go by in order to climb the board and nail the exceptional load.

How many days do you sit when you're bypassing loads like that?
