I think that you must compare apples to apples. The time spent away from home 'at work' is what you're getting compensated for.
The average fast food worker is making minimum wage and might work 40hr/wk where as we don't.
I might only 'drive' 11hrs/day, but I like everyone else is 'on call' for 14hrs/day. That equates to 'work'. (Which I'm not getting compensated for because the wheels aren't turnin.)
Factor in the actual time spent away from home... 168 hrs/wk.
Them's a lot of apples. -

There was an article in the trucker's newspaper that is available at truckstops around the country talking about how years ago truckers made 4 times as much as fast food workers but in modern day, earn 1.9 times what a fast food worker does. I believe that is where the current debate has been coming from.
I don't think of it as an hourly thing, I think of it as, how much was earned in a 24 hour period. If a fast foodie earned $9 bucks an hour for 8 hours and you earned $0.35 cents per mile times 60 miles per hour times the same 8 hours driving, who got paid more value for their time in trade for the labor? -
That's pretty much it.flightwatch Thanks this. -

Let's just lay it out like it is. If you are a true trucker your gonna get paid by the mile not by the hour. so we don't count the time not driving. If you worked at a fast food joint you won't get paid for the time it takes you to drive to work either ! alas if you expect more do something else ! The life of a trucker is unusual and wonderful, but it is not serving fries and burgers.
