@scottied67 I get where you are coming from. You have definitely shown an attitude about other drivers passing you when you are going the speed limit, especially if they are governed slightly faster than you are going and come back over early to let faster traffic through. Here's my thoughts about that:

First, if the speed limit is 65 mph and you have your speedometer at 65 mph you aren't going 65 mph. You are actually doing about 63 mph. The speedometer works by revolutions of your tires. With new rubber it's close to accurate, but not quite. All vehicles have a slower indicated than actual speed.

Second, if a slightly faster truck pulls out to make a pass you always have the option of slowing about 5 mph to facilitate the pass. Get gradually back to speed to build room again. I do this frequently. It's relaxing. It's courteous. It's safe.

Regarding the question of the thread. I now drive an ungoverned truck. I set the cruise control at the speed limit, but maximum of 70 mph with plenty of room to accelerate as needed. When I choose to go faster than the speed limit it is for safety.

    That's right. For safety.

I will speed up to facilitate a faster pass and be able to get back over with PLENTY of space behind me. There's no sense being self righteous about the speed limit to undertake a multi mile pass of another truck. Close quarter driving next to another truck is inherently hazardous. The other driver often has less than superlative skills, yanking the wheel back and forth. Side winds add extra hazard, wanting to suck you towards the other truck from the vortex and wake. Get through the hazard efficiently. Come back over safely ahead, then ease back to cruise control speed.

My GPS is right in the corner of my A pillar and shows the speed I'm traveling is accurate with my speedo and accurate with the side of the road speed radar in work zones as well.

Yeah, I used to do that but then I see in the mirror 14 trucks jumping out to the fast lane to pass and I have to slow down for each one and end up setting my cruise slower than I was going originally when the last one passed me, all for what? I realized I can hold my speed and if they cannot pass maybe they should look in the mirror and realize their own limitations and not expect others to accommodate them like they are some princess.

You do seem to have a thing for the princess honorific.:D

So if you see 14 trucks approaching you...

... by definition they are going faster than you.

You have decided not to slow down anymore to facilitate safety. Instead you are maximizing time clogging up the road and creating a larger group of traffic stacking up behind them. Meanwhile you are stating you aren't wanting to accommodate other drivers and it's all their fault for wanting to pass.

    Who's the princess?

NO you misunderstand. If I slow down for that one princess passer to help them pass then the other 14 trucks instantly also turn into princesses who want to pass who otherwise wouldn't have bothered if I never slowed down to help the 1st princess passer see.

Your understanding of why these types of controls get implemented is grossly flawed.

I think it reflects the current "me me me super selfish gotta get mine at all costs no matter what" mentality that infects this country like a disease.
