My first two years driving Schneider kept me up there constantly. Didn't like it at the time but looking back I'm glad I cut my teeth up there.

Over the years I would find myself in New England about twice a year and actually enjoyed it. Much nicer when you unload and reload back home immediately after. Had some good times hauling cheap one way junk freight but sure wouldn't do it again.

Lack of parking, tight docks, tolls, truck restricted roads, low overhead clearances, traffic all make the north-east ( and Chicago too) a little more challenging for a driver. Not, a big deal but enough some can't handle it. If you can't trip plan or push a trailer up to a tight dock life might be easier for you if you stay out west. For some drivers that is a big deal and their trucking career would end with preventables if they had to go to the NE regularly. Hence, some companies advertise "No East Coast."

I am in the same boat here in MA myself right now Optimus. What did you end up doing? Did you end up going to MO to get trained? I am thinking about Parkers in Avon but that is $5K!:eek:

I'm from Boston. I will run new England. Will NOT run nyc. However schedule the appointments for the hours of 10am-1 pm. I will be parked be 330 pm to have parking. Don't like it, don't send me there. I absolutely will not play the game here. Company policy dictates no hwy parking and most lots up here wont let you park. By 5 pm you're out of luck here. Or paying $20 or better to park.

I always get strange looks when I say I'd rather run the northeast as opposed to the southeast. I hate Georgia worst of all of them.

My story is much the same as yours. I learned to drive a big truck in Boston and the surrounding burbs with nothing but an atlas and my wits. That'll make a driver of ya in a hurry.

I've been to all 48 and I still love New England the most. Massachusetts is still one of my favorite places to drive; massholes n all.

Only problem I have with the east coast is the traffic. You can run the guts out of it out west, but once you start heading east, you can watch the miles drop.

Anything east of Ohio should be $100/hr on top of mileage pay :p

Delivered new cars on a North East regional thing for a bit and liked it. Made good money thanks to a dealership ever 15 miles, and thankfully no docks.
