Why so many accidents every week?

Back to my earlier post, was passing the Fed ex vehicle going the opposite direction and was just shocked! The very worst part is that we all have family members driving these roads so yes I agree the law should be enacted sooner rather than later. Living close to the 94 corridor near Kalamazoo we almost accept the fact accidents here commonplace. Unfortunate to say the least and sad to lose good semi drivers. Again any driver that has a history of clean driving on this forum this ex-Marine salutes you!

I agree there are some big truck drivers that are too cheap to do the right thing and use a hands free headset. But for every 1 big truck driver I see holding a phone Ill wager I see 20 4 wheelers texting and talking on their cells without the use of handsfree devices.
Why so many USA accidents? Actually the numbers have not been that high each day, some being worse than others and of course I know even 1 is too high. But considering the fact that we have 2500+ tractors and double that trailers AND we are a training company, the number or accidents I see come across the Qcomm isn't that bad and could very well be a lot worse. I say keep up the good work but continue to work on improving as always.

At our company, first offense for cellphone use is termination. We have had 3 drivers I know of fired this year for cellphones.

People texting and driving is probably my #1 pet peave. A truck was riding next to me and just started drifting over toward me. I had to blow the horn to get his attention, and when I finally passed him I could see the blue glow of a phone.

But the four wheelers are worse. I swear every other one in Houston traffic is glued to the phone. I've seen way too many near accidents directly related to not paying attention because of the phone.

As much as I hate government intrusion, a nationwide no texting and driving law wouldn't hurt my feelings.

4 Wheelers are bad enough but more and more in the past few years, I see truck drivers on phones and texting and I have even been guilty of texting a boyfriend I knew was driving his truck. I just don't get why so much of the population cares so little about each other that they have to have their noses stuck in a phone app all the time.

How do they know about it? Call them and see if they answer while driving? LOL!

It wouldn't do any more good than the seatbelt law since cops don't stop EVERY SINGLE cell phone user they happen to see and ticket them to the full extent.

interesting how we have made the cellphone............oops, SMARTPHONE a part of our lives

we spend billions every year trying to get the latest and the greatest, with all the new apps and so forth

yet we are surprised people use it when they are driving? lets face reality

we are stuck on technology and communication, thats a fact of life, passing a billion laws wont change that, any more than making 55mph or prohibition a federal law

part of driving is that there will be slow pokes in the middle lane, people will drink and drive, cars will cut you off, people will die and we do have folks who use cellphones while driving

get used to it, put it in the pile of pet peeves and move on

asking our government to make more and more laws is not the answer

That's the way they were raised. There has been progressively less discipline meted out by parents over the years, and today it's rare that kids get punished for bad behavior.

I used to work at Macy's (who didn't?), and one afternoon a mother and her teenage daughter were shopping in our store. A few of the teen's friends passed by, and they (teen and friends) talked softly for a couple minutes. Teen walked back over and said, "Mom, I'm going over to <name>'s house."

"No," the mother said. "We need to finish shopping, then get dinner for your father."

"F*** you, I'm going!" she said, and stormed off with her friends. Mom just stood there, frowning.

I wanted to go over and slap the mother... Had I done that, I would have had a swift backhand across my mouth, dragged by my hair to the car, and my butt suitably reddened as soon as we got home.

These days, someone would call the cops on the mother for doing that...
