great thought but unless you have mental telepathy like my favorite martian(yea im old) than some sort of touching of electronic equipment is required to make or receive a phone call, unless you are one of those people that walk around 24 seven with a headset on, i cant do that, and my phone only gets voice dial right like 1 out of 3 times
Why so many accidents every week?

Qualcom has a lot to do with it also. Any real driver will ignore the cell till their stopped. Like riding a motorcycle, I'm way to busy to talk right now. Then theres Idiots. There not Truckers, just Idiots. About a bilgillion companys make a thing called an ear piece, touch a button and awnser a call. 14.95 saves lives & trucks.

they will cause 3 accidents to get one speeder
i started using bluetooth right before the law came out, before that, i would hold my phone, i still see guys driving holding their phone, i see cops holding their phone
we cant legislate every law, then complain about being a police state
i read somewhere recently that by the time the average person leaves their home and drives to work, they will have broken up to 200 laws (i dont know)
we better be careful of what we are asking for -

And the reply below the original of what I quoted is exactly my point. Maybe some wont object but plenty well especially here lately with the removal and attempted removal of so many other freedoms. -
Just for the ##### and giggles, I had someone enter a completely random comment on IMDB and tell me Californians don't call it Cali, only poseurs. What a nut bag.
I was hit by a school bus on my motorcycle and the limit for compensation in most places is 125-150k. She wasn't texting, just made the stupid decision to pull out blind from behind another bus and into a rounded off turn. After my bills were paid and my arm ruined, I got 10 and the lawyer got 30. Nice.
Cops can do all of that you decribed for the sake of witholding the law. They don't have to wear their seatbelt because they are in and out of the patrol car so often. Well, so am I. Until they get every single non wearer every single day, I wont wear it. -
Yea, that's why I wrote that I understand the irony of the situation in parenthesis as one must touch the phone to take the pic but as some drivers have informed, it doesn't take but a few minutes sitting in any truck stop to observe some of this illegal behavior. I'm not clear on the law regarding the mere handling of a phone. I know drivers can't text or talk (without the hand's free device) while driving but not sure if the law pertains to handling the phone in any manner, such as taking a pic. I didn't familiarize myself with the law because I'm not a cell phone fan and mine gets very limited use. Not only is it off when I'm driving, many times it's off even when I'm not working. I use about 60-100 minutes per month, max. Sometimes I don't even use that. -
I use a head set. Its one button push and all voice activated. My voice dial hardly ever messes up and if it does I can tell the phone to try again. Hell I can one button push and then dictate a text and its usually good enough for the person recieving it to understand. My phone can.also read incoming text to.me. all with one button push on bt head set. Now if a cop looks at yhe phone he will try to claim I hand texted a msg. But has no proof. But I can probe I can voice text.
Now with all that said I still don't text. I hate it. To impersonal. If you text me while I am driving I am.calling you. If you claim you can't talk at work I remind you I can't text at work. Need less to say my friends hardly text me anymore.

Really you get worse drivers from this? i think we're talking apples and oranges here. just saying. -
