Why do some owner operators choose to get their own MC/DOT # and run under their own authority ??? ... what's the advantages or disadvantages of running that way ??? ... why do some owner operators lease on to a company that holds the MC/DOT # and run under their authority ??? ... what are the advantages or disadvantages to running that way ???

Some find the adventure better than the destination. Some like to have more freedom than others. There is no best way , there is only a best way for YOU. Do you want to be a driver or a business owner ? Driving a truck is a job not a business. Owning a carrier is a business entity not a job but could turn into a job worse than being a driver. The financial reason for becoming a carrier is simply you get the retail rate for your services and if your an owner operator you give up a percentage of that retail rate and get the wholesale rate. How much do you want to do ???

Currently leased to a company that takes 35% ... every week I see they get thousands and I scratch my head and wonder what they do to earn it ... is the better out there ??? ... am I doing something wrong ???

It boils down to the final cpm left .. 35% of 3.00 a mile freight can be better than 100% of 2.00 a mile loadboard freight once other expenses are factored in
