I don’t work for a mega, never have. I drove charter buses for 20 years, and after upgrading from a Class B to a Class A two years ago, I got hired by a smallish (500 trucks) family owned outfit. I still had to drive OTR for 7 months before getting the regional dedicated gig I have now.
I’m not saying that a rookie driver right out of driving school can’t ever get a great job on day one, but in my experience and from what I’ve read here, most companies prefer to give the better positions to drivers who have demonstrated that they can actually do the job. -
"Get the hometime you deserve".
With 90% of companies this means a 34hr restart which is barely enough time to shower and repack your bags.EuropeanTrucker, Texas_hwy_287, McUzi and 1 other person Thank this. -
With the exception of waiting a week for a local spot to open after training, I’ve landed great local jobs from the start, TMC being the lowest paying one. Right place at the right time I’m sure also had a part in it, but I haven’t paid any dues to be where I am as a driver, I just went to work and went after what I wanted.Texas_hwy_287 Thanks this.
