Same here. When my schedule gets interrupted my day is ruined.

I run local, so I’m more focused on getting the load/s done and going home.

I used to run that way, wide open everywhere every time. The OSOW killed the “gotta go gotta go gotta go” mentality.

I get up early, take the browns to the Super Bowl gravity feed style. No rush. PreTrip and fuel, no rush. I am early.

Now, you do have a bunch of fat self centered pricks out on the roads, hating life who would like nothing more to ruin your day. They look for opportunities to be pricks. Be mindful of these, if they can piss you off, they control you. These are the ones who see how close they can get to vehicles on the shoulder. These are the ones who sandbag the middle lane and attempt to block you from passing on the right.

Think it really depends on what it is you are doing. When running local and regional freight. You really have to have that mentality to be successful, because those extra couple minutes of dicking around talking to someone or getting held up at the fuel island add up by the end of the week always seems to translate to showing up 15 minutes passed closing time and failing to get loaded/unloaded, which could change your entire week and into next week.

Long haul is a little different in my opinion. I average it all out at 50mph in good weather that adds in a lot of dick around time. When someone says we need it there faster then that , ok no problem here's how much that cost... ok yeah nevermind... try that with local work and u will be sitting at the house... lots of different ways to think about stuff and be successful with it.

90% of the loads I run are 24/7 on both ends so there really isn't a rush, but every now and then I'll get the "how many loads can you turn from Warren to Philly this week?" Then it's game on and I pretty much try to beat my own record.
One place I load out of quite frequently is in the middle of the woods, 2 lane state routes through the forest for about 60 miles. I make good time going in and out of there, but there's a handful of drivers that get off on holding me up. One guy drove 40 mph the whole way and when we got to the scales he laughed and said "we made good time huh?"
You are 100% correct when you say those people control you. If they know they can find a nerve they'll pinch it

It’s the logbook and lack of consideration from other links of logistics chain, not a mindset, we are all forced into this.

I do all I can, but at the end of the day I can’t control a lot of stuff so I don’t let it bother me. Doesn’t mean I fiddle fart around, but I don’t let it get to me.

Is this how you say, "I get up early, take a dump, fuel and PreTrip."?

Are you a Steelers fan?

It's one of the reasons I stopped drving. Try this experiment, drive 2 mph slower than your normal speed or your truck's max. Respond to each challenge by slowing down. All but my last truck were limited to 65-70 like 95% of other fleet trucks. That meant being stuck behind someone just barely slower so every minute was frustration or taking 12 miles to pass.

The cheapest change is changing your attitude. It happens to often be the hardest change, but it is all under your control. Good luck.
