The moment my girlfriend (now wife) and I got serious and we moved in together, I asked for a city transfer. Reddaway initially told me no until I told them that FxF was offering me a P&D job.
My barn was in dire need to keep me on linehaul, but they also lost a city driver on top of the two they were already down. Lose-lose situation for them and they had to approve the transfer. -
They only thing that ever really worked for me on line haul was the extra board with a sleeper truck running 2nd day freight , otherwise I was tired all the time .

22 years on night Linehaul. No problem with the family.

I always swore up and down that I would not set foot in a sleeper truck. But after my last gig, having a place to crash for 30 minutes without being hunched over my steering wheel would have been nice during my time running linehaul.
I knew a few drivers from different companies that ran sleepers but had home daily jobs. Extra storage and a place to take a cat nap is actually kinda appealing. -
Mad respect. You probably also been in long enough to be used to the sacrifices. It's a bit of a culture shock for many that are just transitioning into this world.dwells40, Opus, upnorthwpg and 1 other person Thank this.

I started with linehaul back in the days(1979) and I was single. You could get away with a lot of stuff back then that will land you losing your license today. Anyways, did it for about 4 years until I started the family and my 2nd boy came in the picture. I wanted more home time, that’s when I went the O/O way. I’ve never looked back since.

^^^ Hard dude.
I ran linehaul at night, in my early 20’s. I slept across the seats and engine cover of an S2300. I can’t imagine suffering like that ever again. I feel bad for all the freight drivers running a day cab. A sit-in bunk should be the minimum.
International S2300.

True. Wife was very understanding, still is. Boring, no. I like knowing where I go daily. The border is the only wild card for us. Can be 5 minutes or 5 hours.
