Wondering about Marine Corps uniforms

Here's one for old Marines or military history buffs. I remember rather vividly the khaki and tropical dress uniform. You can still see it on the characters watching Gomer Pyle. I always admired how for the most part the actors uniforms looked so perfect. My older brother who joined the corps in the late 60s wore tropicals. When I signed up a decade later it had been phased out.

When exactly did the tropical uniform go out of service?

 

I remember this well. Corps Men as well as Naval Officers serving with Marine units such as chaplain. In fact, the battalion chaplain in an infantry unit I was in was a twelve year veteran Marine who had reached the rank of GYSGT. He left the service for a while and became an ordained minister. Then he joined the Navy. I knew him as a lieutenant, 0-3.
Such a kind, thoughtful gentleman was he. I remember his name. Cagle.
