Guys,
Just a quick question - will getting into an accident cost you your job? How many speeding tickets would it take? I see so many trucks going over the speed limits, maybe getting a ticket is not a big deal. The reason I am asking, I am thinking about getting my CDL and quite curious about this. Thanks so much for taking the time to read my post, I appreciate it.
Worried about this...

3 tickets in 3 years will hurt you
Anything over 15+ mph speeding ticket will hurt upattyj Thanks this. -
That is the wrong prospective to have when your trying to be successful at something. You want to be the best driver you can be. If you see truck speeding & doing other things that are not safe. That is your example of what not to do. I dug myself a deep hole being unsafe and getting costly tickets. Keep a clean record and be safe. I hope you are successful in your career
Giuseppe Ventolucci and pattyj Thank this. -
Doesn't it depend on the company? I heard that in 2017 FedEx will increase its bonus for 16+ tickets and is going to start painting little crashed FedEx trucks on the drivers door for each new wreck that driver has.
Dave_in_AZ, 1johnb, scottlav46 and 3 others Thank this. -
We have enough super truckers out here already. If you see them flying by you will probably see them in a ditch sooner or later. Be a good driver. 1 accident can cause you everything like your life. Literally. Hope that walmart driver that hit tracy morgan found another gig. Never dug to deep into the driver info but that kind of crash can break your career. So if speeding and wrecks are your thing then go join NASCAR
OJ_DUB Thanks this. -
They're gonna need bigger doors.

Accidents depend on dollar amount, but yeah get too many and you're fired. Rear end accident is pretty much automatic termination. Speeding tickets are hard to get in a big rig unless you just don't care and are a complete idiot, I think lane change tickets are more common where pos 4 wheelers won't let you merge

Also keep in mind accidents that aren't your fault will hurt you. I had one backing accident I got dinged with when I was a rookie. I had 3 accidents where trucks backed into at a truck stop or dock where I was parked. I was cleared of all three but some companies would not hire me despite 3 yrs cdl experience and a squeaky clean driving record because of "too many accidents" (they acknowledged only one was my fault)

You're asking the wrong crowd. None of us ever get in accidents.

Seriously, it would depend on the situation and on the company. They say all accidents are preventable. While that's true they aren't necessarily preventable by all involved. Do your best to prevent, don't be the cause and you should have nothing to worry about. -
When I see another truck speeding, I just say, go ahead buddy, you can have my ticket. Lots of cops and DOT out where I drive.
