it's like it was once explained to me...

that YES, those crashes/injuries/deaths are high for a company, however, when you factor in the total amount of equipment and employees into to total equation, it is a rather small amount.

take for instance a company with only 100 pieces of equipment, and maybe 120 employees, and then say that they had 2200 wrecks, you see the point differences..

in the end, it does not make sense, but to the "bean counters" and maybe to the stock holders, and insurance companies, it does.

Not really. Someone posted their stats a few weeks ago and doing the math they are very close to Swift. Not as bad sure, but very close. Something like within 5% of the miles driven for both wrecks and fatalities.

yes it is, and understandable when (even I) see all the accidents, etc, involving Swift.

as it stands, i personally try to NEVER recommend a first time trucking company.yes, we all had to start someplace, like i did.

but back in my days, the "big ones" were JB Hunt and Schneider, maybe Monson (i think Swift bought them out decades ago), and a few others. but none of them were actually known as a "mega-carrier"

in fact also back then, when you went to any of those companies, you actually had a REAL TRAINER who had to have at least 5 to 10 years experience before he ever could qualify as a trainer..!!!!

then you STAYED with that trainers for anywhere from 4 weeks to 3 months, depending on YOUR progress.

    what do we see today..??

well at Swift for instance, someone with a mere 3 months of experience is asked to be a mentor...(alias trainer)...is this right..?? the blind leading the blind..??

then others will chime in and say, "well trucking is not rocket science"...

and here you go with all these accidents.......

no trucking is not a rocket science, but it does help if one has COMMON sense for one, and a HS diploma for two, and a good training form a good (they do not exist) CDL school.

for the past 1 to 2 decades, it's all been about the money and "get'em in, get'em out and make a bunch of money.

the trucking companies, NOT ALL, but a chosen few (Swift is one PERFECT example), got in on the government subsidized training programs, either on thier own, or thru state agencies or the Feds.

    "get'em in get'em out"..."next victims please"......

but like i said, everyone has to start someplace, and leave...and yet, believe it or not, many DO STAY at Swift for varying reasons.

one driver i had met many years ago, was with Swift for like 15+ years, he was NOT a trainer/mentor, he was just the kind of guy that stayed put when he gets hired, as in the long run, in the most basic of all things, the grass is NOT always greener someplace else, and then too....

look at all the years Swift has been in business, compared to some other places.....

    now isn't that FRIGHTENING..????

I know they been making some changes with driver let go just keep the stats down, I remember one story a former student driver was was in a wreck turned out the truck wasn't even in gear was near the terminal sounds like I didn't get all details long story short the mentor of the rookie driver in accident was telling driver to be in no gear coming off-ramps and even to lights then change there. The driver was a lease driver who was also training students.

They look at his past students and they were all involved in wrecks they canceled his contract on the lease or something along those lines. I find it strange it took so many wrecks and one his students come forward before anyone notices a pattern bad drivers from this trainer. From what I was told the driver went back out with another trainer instead of them just firing them. That's what a term manager said rather or not them not firing them true hard say.
