Y’all can bash the Teamsters in any way you want for what they became but they were absolutely needed when it started. Everyone loves bashing unions but if it weren’t for unions we’d still have sweatshop style conditions. Glad there’s no abuse of any drivers anymore and all companies insure their guys are safe and warm in the winter and coo in the summer and paid at a top rate like Chitown Steers was looked after. I heard the pay at all these OTR companies is fantastic and drivers are never financially abused like in a company store type situation where the company controls everything and has enforced escrow accounts that are surrendered if a hand chooses to leave………..yep glad that doesn’t happen anymore

I wanna try a union gig one day.
I wanna work less, and get overtime.
I don’t need these 60 hour checks I’m getting every week. I wanna work 40-45.
hell, I’ll even work for less money if you let me work 4 days a week.Saltyoldone, Old_n_gray and LtlAnonymous Thank this. -

I'm not saying that when the my 2 terminals closed that we got a lot of calls from other LTL managers in the area asking which of the applications they should not call but I am saying LTL management isn't a huge field and a lot of the managers and regional management know each other and talk. -
"Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy.Devolves into
Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend.
No animal shall wear clothes.
No animal shall sleep in a bed.
No animal shall drink alcohol.
No animal shall kill any other animal.
All animals are equal."
“Four legs good, two legs bad! Four legs good, two legs bad!”
Which gets manipulated into:
"Four legs good, two legs BETTER! Four legs good, two legs BETTER! Four legs good, two legs BETTER!’The long made short - unions made a land of milk and honey for themselves while forking anyone else - particularly young people trying to build a life. Then once they no longer needed the protection of the union, their members voted in politicians who destroyed the economy that unions built - Nixon, Carter, and Regan - while poisoning the minds of their children against unions.
We all know that 1099 operators are killing the industry, but any mention of trying to bring them to heel is met with cries of "over regulation". Even raising the bar for CDL entrants is met with extreme push back - getting kicked from Bush to Obama to Trump, who finally instituted a rule that enriches the CDL mills while doing nothing to increase the quality of new entrants. No objection was uttered by the unions. Fast forward to this year and the Teamsters President speaks at the Republican Convention, which appeased his membership which voted in an administration that is anti-worker.
I had and have problems with unions, but given a choice between a world where unions exist and one where they are illegal - I'll choose the union world every time.Still undecided, LTL Bull and hope not dumb twucker Thank this. -
I left Estes that day, drove literally across the street to the Reddaway terminal, emptied my locker, told my supervisor I quit, and went home. Started working for Estes the following Monday. Guess I'm one of the lucky few who was able to wipe the teamsters off my back.LPjunior1970, mjd4277, Siinman and 2 others Thank this.
