Replying to a two week old post just to argue is pretty typical too.

Might be a 2 week old post but I only got to reading it this morning. So where does that leave us?
It’s my reply early, late, right on time don’t matter to me. Deal with it!

Years ago Yellow would not hire anyone without a CDL.
Many of the Small EOL terminals were 100 % CDL holders.
Now when you open a big terminal in a big city that all goes out the window.
As far as drivers who could not pass their DOT physical their was language in their labor contract that allowed them to move to dock work.
One in particular incident where a road driver got a DWI and lost his CDL. He was allowed to work the dock until he got his CDL reinstated. Which I am glad there is that protection but I do not agree with it in this case.
Must be pretty stupid move when a CDL is your lively hood.

Yeah. This is what happened to my old colleague Ed. His last name escapes my memory. He got plastered into oblivion and managed to take out 45 linear feet of guard rail along the bridge crossing the Madison River.

He was moved to the dock. This was at USF Reddaway.

Why is that? Is the compensation not good?

The load board is horrible right now. I live about an hour and 15 minutes up the road from you. Van loads are in the toilet flats are averaging about 2.5-3.0 on regional loads. Rgn is pitiful. I think you are going to really struggle to make any money and to add to that it’s a 1099 and you are on the hook for all your taxes.

    Siinman Thanks this.

Any 1099 gig is inherently unstable. There is a high likelihood you'd be looking for a new job within a year.

5+ years same 1099 company for me...
(But its my truck and trailer, then leased on, i can pick where when or what i haul so its actually a proper use of the 1099 setup).

    Oxbow and Opus Thank this.

Did probably 9 years +/- years as 1099 and was very happy with the outcome.
