Not many companies on earth can afford FxF for all the reasons you guys previously stated. With a 80/100 operating ratio, they definitely swing the biggest stick in the freight world.
I think Amazon could be a potential buyer, but that company is about one or two antitrust lawsuits away from needing to be broken up (at least in my mind). Could you imagine what kind of crap FxF would be hauling if that acquisition did happen? Imagine Amazon throwing their hat into competing with Ashley's furniture or some kind of appliance store with two day inside delivery?
Spinoff is the biggest possiblity in my opinion while keeping their FedEx name. You can't change your name and keep your customers. Holland tried that when they changed to Yellow. We lost customers the moment those stupid decals covered our Holland logo on all of our equipment. But I digress. Something tells me that a spinoff is the way this will go. They keep their name, employees, service centers, and everything else without screwing things up. At least their CEO alluded to this.
I'm unplugging my crystal ball and putting it in the garage. Nothing good has been coming out of it.
