Any thoughts about closing threads that have been inactive for years and years...?
There were a couple recently that were like 8 years old ....

You're right, at a certain point it doesn't make sense for a thread to be revived. On the other hand, some members get their start by finding their way to the site on an old topic and adding their first post there. Maybe a 4 year cut-off would be a good compromise?
Dominick253, pigeon river trucking and nofreetime Thank this. -
everybody has a cut off but why kill the the opportunities? no mater what age the threads are it leaves room for conversation which is what a forum is about ... right? then again rehashing the past tends to push the do you know old this thread is button.
what harm will will it do to leave as is?Dominick253, Big Don and tucker Thank this. -
Seems reasonable ...
Can the robots do that or is some poor mod gonna have to deal with it.... -
Good god, you missed your calling as an inventor of new and creative forms of punishment. There are 238,000 threads on the board, it's definitely something that would have to be automated.
ExOTR, scottlav46, lovesthedrive and 2 others Thank this. -

I strongly disagree with closing threads just because of their age. There are many reasons to close threads, but I don't think age alone is one of them. IMHO, there are some things that may get brought up again, to see a new light shined upon them.
And yes, there will always be some of us, (I know I've been guilty of it,) that will say, or at least think, GOOD LORD THIS IS AN OLD THREAD. But that doesn't mean it may not still be applicable.scottied67, MACK E-6, Cat sdp and 1 other person Thank this. -
Just to make sure we're all on the same page, no one is suggesting closing old threads that are still active. The only idea being discussed is closing threads that have been inactive for several years. The infamous Werner trainer thread continues to rumble along, and even with no further activity it would remain open into 2020.
Speaking of old... wow, I can't believe the years are creeping up on us like that.tucker, Big Don and bullhaulerswife Thank this. -
