Marten or Shaffer?

I can't speak for either to be honest I would prefer dry van I hate long wait times at a shipper and reefer you general have long waits. I will say as the promise of a 1k per week sounds about like a deal like from a bottom feeder would say and from one company I almost went to K&B who was promising people 1k weekly am glad I didn't take the offer up.

Big news of driver getting forced wake up by cops called to wake your butt up because your not moving along but the cops called for a welfare check.

Maybe they are not like this I have no clue but even if the above doesn't happen you still need find out how exactly the 1k weekly works personally I would stay clear of them. And the 3 year finance 5-10k down unless its some beat up POS don't buy it till you read the contract after that have it inspected outside the company I used to hear people from swift how they got tricked into a contract for lease but no mention of a weapon forcing them to sign it.
You could try the dry van side I hear some reason or another the dry van side they get treated different for some reason meaning better as to why I have no clue why.

 

I have heard that, but I worked for Shaffer for 17 years, and last year went to Crete...seamless transfer with same truck and no quitting or re-hiring. Not saying they let everyone do that, but I was able to.

 

I've worked for both. I would pick Shafer. The pay is more straightforward.It will take you a year to learn all the intricacies of Marten's system.
Shafer is one day off for e very six out.
Marten is one day off for every seven out.
Shafer is dispatched by robots so you have to be proactive and if a load has too much time on it ask for another load.
I definitely have the scoop on those companies.

 

LTL means less than a truckload .. Old Dominion , Fedex freight , Ups Freight ,SAIA, Estes, YRC Yellow/Holland/Reddaway, Central Transport, Central Freight lines , ABF Freight , XPO , R&L Carriers , Southeastern freight lines , Dayton Freight , AAA Cooper ,Pitt Ohio ,Oak Harbor, NEMF, A. Duie Pyle , Ward Trucking, etc,etc

I have a good driving record , over 7 years experience and all endorsements and I've applied countless times to the ltl companies that operate in my area and never had ONE call back ...I live in Tucson AZ and the terminals are very small and they hire friends/buddies/Tucsonans . Large terminals are typically always hiring though

 

Tucson has small terminals. I have a friend who had two interviews with an LTL Carrier in Springfield, MO. He was overlooked twice. Why? Unsure. Perhaps someone more qualified filled the position, or maybe someone from within the company transferred to the terminal you applied for.

LTL is great! It’s hard to get on, but once you do, it’s awesome! Yes, they hire from within, and a smaller terminal can be tough to get on with, but not everyone has this issue

 

I myself have looked into IWX before. Sadly they use driver facing cams.

 

They do use those, I forgot. But they run 75 mph, and pay 57 cpm. I have a friend who currently works there. He seems to enjoy it.

 

Never be afraid, or feel ashamed, to call the company. Give Shaffer a call, ask the recruiter if your application/resume is still good standing. Ask him/her if the job is still available or if they’ve decided to move on with another candidate. They will give you the answers you seek.
