I would not mind a little peace and quiet in a proper warehouse with a broom. Somehow I don't think Amazon knows how to issue a broom. //TEASE.

Be thankful brokers even exist and u can still find freight. They are in business to make money just like we are. There is plenty of brokers to work with that are paying a fair rate right now. If i can find them , u can to. Yeah it takes a couple more phone calls, but its part of the game. I have heard the word "NO" more times in the past 2 weeks , than ive heard in my whole life. But ive also said it the same amount of times. Its fine. Make another phone call.
i dont think the slandering of brokers is deserved , when they are key link in the supply chain.

I used to enjoy sweeping, grew up with a broom in my hand making 25 cents an hour from the age of 6 .

I am thorough and it drives me Crazy when people are not with a broom.

Last thing I swept was a 30,000 sqft boat storage facility 3 years ago where I was working on the owners 1964 37 Chris Craft for a couple months with grinders and sanders.

Triple swept as the paint I ground off created such a fine fine dust that could have been tracked into 1/2 million dollar boats in the barn.

My shoulders were Sore Sore Sore after that marathon.

It’s time to thin the herd a bit. Way too many trucks are out here. If an O/O can’t get buy for a couple of months or so then they need to shut down. The prices have been down for what a month or so and already a bunch are crying. That just means that most were a breakdown away from closing already.

One of my dearest friends of 35 years is a Broker, been doing it for 30 something years.

5 people in the home office everyday running the show, I am famaliar with the day in day out operation as I stayed with them for a year.

I seen his rates , 10-15% depending on the lane , he is mostly open deck work.

He has many shippers that he has moved freight for decades as well as drivers that have moved it for him.

    He is Loyal
Believe me I see him work day day out , it ain't easy..But he is fair and honest at all times.

So I know we are not talking about the majority.

But the Brokers that are Pulling this Krap should be called out. Their the same guys stealing shippers by low balling .

    bzinger and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

Agreed. I have had the pleasure of working with smaller brokers that were incredible, fair, and understanding, and these are the guys I would work with for a lower rate just to build a relationship with. But when you look at the load board and see that 90% of the loads are posted by either TQL or Megacorp, you know you are getting screwed.

I love watching hard-core, free-market capitalists just fall apart as soon as the Free-Market hurts them.

Broker rates are no different than the stock market - the rates are what they are based on the "free-market".

The word hero is way over used and has lost its meaning.
We are not heroes, we are out here doing a job for profit. I am a free market guy and I'm doing fine. My numbers are down just a bit, still 5-7 grand a week.( 5 days)
The herd does need to be thinned and the owners with no money or bad business plans will fail. It's life. I have been close to failing before, had to change my business model a couple of times in the past.
I seen the rates falling 2 years ago, changed my gameplan in 2019 and doing ok.
    I'm buying fuel at a $1.30 a gallon, but when rates are $3.00 a mile fuel is $2.50- $3.00 a gallon.
It's going to be tough, but you can save yourself with a little foresight and discipline.
