I got one of those big ### rand McNally tablets and hated it. Software was slow and confusing. It found its way to the trashcan so now I'm picking up a Garmin and crossing my fingers.
Hegemeister Thanks this. -
My trainer had two Rand McNally tablets. They fell off the windshield mount a couple of times on rough roads. They would freeze up at inopportune times. It could have been he didn’t keep the firmware up to date or they had other issues but I decided to go with Garmin. I ran the Garmin 770 for quite a while but recently went to the Garmin DEZL OTR 1000.
Is it big? Yes, it is. It displays a lot of information. The voice commands are different between the 770 and the 1000, so I am re-learning. I, personally would not use this at the bottom of the windshield. I like my dashboard clear. Another negative is the voice is not as load as the 770.
If you are a new driver, does your company have GPS already installed in the truck? We have CoPilot installed on our Qualcomm. It works very well and can save a new driver money.

The new system combines all the stupidity of the old, while removing the ability to 'prefer freeways.'
What this means is that the newest Rand software will take you the most retarded legal route possible, without considering that secondary roads have stop signs, traffic lights, and farm equipment.
The one and only useful new feature in Rand's new software is the ability to permanently block travel on lots of specified roads.
You will need that feature to de-tard some of the idiotic routing Rand will try to force on you.
Oh, and they have not updated their truck stop database in nearly 2 years. -
This refurbished Rand McNally TND tablet is the worst at times. It'll lose signal while I'm driving, so I constantly have to reset the motha##### through out the day. Ive only had one Garmin GPS and I wish I would've held on to it because they seem to be more durable than McNally. If purchased 4 Rand McNally GPS over the past 6 years, but I'm thinking that the Garmin Deizel would've lasted me longer than the Rand Brands.

Have the 7" garmin dezl. I look at the GPS as 80% of the trip. The first 10% getting on a main highway and the last 10% getting to the destination. I look at my atlas and Google maps to check for any issues my GPS my drive me into. Only issue I've had with it is when I missed a turn and it turned me down a not very truck friendly route. Other than that the included tools on the gps were very helpful, most of the rest areas and truck stops are listed for in route stops.
