Yeah I got hired for US Foods straight out of CDL school and my 1st week on the job my boss was openly making fun of the experienced OTR applicants he was getting.

Yeah Shamrock said we don't rotate stock. Maybe in a small freezer to fit things but other than that, that is not our job.
Mooseontheloose Thanks this. -
I always said it matters how fit you are or what you did prior to driving. UPS / Estes was going to hire me for P&D after doing my 1 year of OTR “ didn’t get hired bc of COVID-19 slowed freight down” food service went to the ground restaurants closed their doors didn’t bother with the Sysco interview but my prior work was commercial construction 11 years welding and carpentry work for the Navy of course I stayed fit while OTR still made to the gym while on the road. Good luck man in the food service the money should be better.
Mooseontheloose and Lumper Humper Thank this. -
I’ve been at US Foods for 9 years, delivered milk for 7 before that. I’m 38 now and starting to plan my exit strategy. It’s definitely a fair job for the work. Pay is good, I’m home every night, and have every weekend off.
But you see the guys that are in their 40’s and 50’s and it’s scary. We only have 9 drivers at our depot in Syracuse, NY and the surgeries they’ve had at such a young age is eye opening. One guy is in his early 50s and already had a hip replaced, other guys with knee surgeries, back surgeries, shoulders, etc. this job will destroy your body.
My only advice is take advantage of the Perks of the job while you’re young enough. My wife and I have recently paid off all our debt and are just working on our mortgage. That should be done in 3-4 years, after that I think I’m gonna find a nice cushy driving job somewhere.
Dont get so used to spending the money that you can’t live without it. Good luck!Radman, HiramKingWilliams, Cardfan89 and 2 others Thank this. -
Still waiting for background check. I'm getting a little antsy waiting. Been away from work for a month now. One thing for sure is that I don't miss sleeping in a truck.
Mooseontheloose and Cardfan89 Thank this. -
Background check finally done. Should be starting next week. I look forward to it.
Mooseontheloose Thanks this. -
Good luck. I like the work. Trailer was 1.5 hours late and I ended not being able to slide back axel. This is me at an assisted living facility today.
Radman, Mooseontheloose, Gearjammin' Penguin and 3 others Thank this. -
Lace up the work boots and head to my first day tomorrow. Ready to get back to work and start making money. I saved a lot during OTR so this downtime hasn't hurt me at all but I am definitely tired of spending my savings haha.
Texas_hwy_287, Mooseontheloose and Cardfan89 Thank this.
