I have zero input on where to go but what type of freight are you hauling?

That may be helpful in the decision process.

Does Schneider have open deck like landstar has?
Dry van, reefer etc would all come in play as to who you would sign onto.

No matter what you do some will say you should have done the other.

I don’t have any dog in this fight but I see the same questions asked over and over. Landstar or any other company will be what you make of it. Will some not be able to manage a business and fail? Yes. Will they then blame the company they leased onto? Yes. Will some make a good go of it and stay forever? Yes. Every place has its good and bad.

Hi. I am very land star bias. You need to know that up front. But I will respond very matter of factly with hopes of being even down the middle.
Also you must know I am land star heavy because I have absolutely no experience with any other company like land star.

Land star drivers and cb's a lot of driver are d#%ks. Land star seems to be filled with more than average amount of them. I have met about 50 l/s drivers. 5 or 6 of them seemed nice enough to answer questions. My c.b. I can't talk out on I don't know what's going on with it.
Is it worth it? Way to vague of a question can you change it?
How often do they pay.? They pay different people on different days of the week my boss gets paid on Friday. He pays me on Wednesday.
You can book your own freight. If you are a true o/o with your own numbers. In which case you would use their other load board.
Health insurance. I have my own. So if I leave this contract it Don't get interrupted.

Hidden fees, I like this question. No hidden fees perse but a couple things they don't tell you. I'm guessing because they just take it out of your settlements. So it's not hidden you see it on Friday.

    1) there is a $1000. Billed weekly for escrow. Maybe 35 a week I dunno. This is so your last week there they make sure you don't owe them anything. And refund the rest.
    2) the lcapp, program to use it you need to have a certain amount money in that account. I don't really know how that works.
    3) you have to buy a locke set and qual comm if you don't have one by the second day of orientation. Locke 80.00. Qualcomm 800.00. Againg these charges are broken doen weekly.

Is land star worth it. ? It is to me. But i have self motivation. Most agents are liars just trying to get you to move a load for them. So u gotta read between the lines.
My favorite thing is the contract minimum load requirement. The contract is written where you only have to move one load per month. This is great. For me. But I don't own this truck so I work 3 -5 weeks at a time. But you don't ask anyone for time off. Literally go home when you want.
But keep in mind your settlement fees will still be adding up.
My boss has a system that keeps these paid while I'm off.
My major dislike with land star corporate is its their way or the highway. But I'm always getting in trouble so maybe that's not you.
For what I want land star offers. They are never in my business less I get caught doing something. But im always getting caught. The rates are very mediocre not the worst not the best.
If your not self motovaded. If your grimmy and don't want to take care of your truck land star is for you. If you do maintenance and keep a clean truck land star is for you.
If you spend all you money every Friday at the casino. Then stay very very far away. If you don't have a business mind.or need some help in those areas then get it before you get here. Land star has a very dark side to it. But they sound so sweet when they say. Well you should have planned for that it is your truck.
I know I won't get rich here. But im happy. Good luck to whatever you decide.

P.s. there are a bunch of bco s here I'm sure that will chime in

James j, bzinger, Vitkouski and 3 others Thank this.

    Paid weekly.

No - book freight off their board, or put it through a LS agent.

    No health insurance offered.

All fees are in the contract - it’s 42 pages, so buckle up and get reading.

You need to have a plan in order to ask a structured question - to get complete and accurate answers.

This @blairandgretchen dude. He's like a rock star at Landstar. Has youtube videos, hates DEF trucks.

This is the guy. Follow his thread and his footsteps.

Some drivers go there that don't have much, if any, experience.
One driver 0/0 that posts on here went there because he wanted to team with his wife who just graduated from cdl school. Carolina Logistic was the only company that would accept them as a team. Ad says they pay 90% with no hidden fees; maybe that true, I don't know.
