Are you having a problem stalling out your truck?
-
Putting it in too high of a gear when taking off. Not downshifting quick enough going up a hill. Basically too high of a gear for where you are at.
Running out of diesel or def will also stall one out.Flat Earth Trucker, D.Tibbitt, Coffey and 2 others Thank this. -
The PNDB on a Freightliner going bad or losing connection will shut it down quick too.
Scoot 1971, D.Tibbitt and OldeSkool Thank this. -
Dumping the left hoof at a high rate of speed.
D.Tibbitt and meechyaboy Thank this. -
Taking off in too high gear, trying to take off with park brakes applied, trying to take off with frozen brakes, steep hill/muddy conditions (see "too high gear" mentioned previously), lugging engine down too low, sick engine, running out of fuel/fuel restriction, restricted air intake, aftertreatment system plugged up, engine protection shutdown, loss of power or ground to ECM, broken ignition switch wiring.......
Etc etcD.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
Driver error... if you driven stick in a car it’s very similar. When I first started driving truck my main reason for stalling was when I came to a stop without downshifting all the way and leaving the range selector up when taking off. It’ll likely be a situation that you’ll be in until you pick up downshifting in the lower gears.

Forgetting to flip the range selector down when a light goes red seems to be the most common I see.
Especially if you are in the habit of staring out in 3rd. Still driver error if you kill the engine before notice and deal with it. -
Not quite a stall... One time I had the old Cat 3406B spinning backwards because I left the jakes on too long.
Couldn’t drive the truck at all. No steering, no oil pressure and can’t find gears.
Wasn’t til I shut the truck off and restarted then everything worked normally.
