I wrote this review of DG fleet on indeed , it was rejected , just wanted to let everyone know what your getting in to at Doller General..... I was really excited about going to work for Dollar General. It’s a new private fleet ,new trucks and a promise of above average income . DG has its own private fleet ....awesome right, not really! There is a lot of reviews on pay that are saying DG is above average pay -You can make some serious money...its amazing . I think a lot of the positive reviews are from management or new drivers. If you stay out of truck stops and have a great work ethic .You will make serious money just about any where. I’m writing this review to let drivers know about the DG Fleet. I still work for Dollar General. I wanted drivers to have a honest review before coming to DG.
IMO ,experience and new drivers should stay away from the DG private fleet in till DG decides that their drivers are worth paying. The risk is high for new drivers , you have the opportunity to get in some serious accidents working for DG. The money is below average pay for a experienced driver. There is no reason why DG can’t have a elite private fleet. You are a number at DG , your expendable, you can be replaced by the new driver they hire next week, that is the feeling from management I get.
Let’s start with the loads and drops. When you pick your trailer up at DG. It will ether have one,two,three,four...etc. I just picked up a loaded trailer with two drops with 800 miles and 3300 pieces. If you unload a store with more then 2000 pieces, it pays two drops. Which the piece count and weight is estimated-apparently DG doesn’t know exactly what they are giving to their stores ? That might be the reason why the piece count is estimated ! DG policy is every 500 pieces should take one hour to unload ; 3300 divided by 500 that’s about 6.5 hours DG estimate. That’s if everything goes perfect ...most of the time the product in the trailer is shoved in it. During training large bulky products are suppose to be the only things on top of a rotaters. That is false anything and everything is on top. The rotaters that you push off the truck are not loaded correctly. Some of them don’t roll, have no nets ,the list goes on .You will end up knocking one of them over when you try to push it up hill ,in a gravel parking lot . It might just fall over on its own because the way its loaded .Nobody in the warehouse is on your side. Their job is to load the trailer . Very rarely do you get a trailer or store that has everything you need to unload the trailer efficiently . So, 90% of the time you are getting payed below Minimum wage to unload or load a trailer. Very rarely are you getting payed the same as the guys that loaded it in the warehouse .Remember you not unloading at a dock it is very labor intensive. That is not above average pay ! What would it cost for a couple lumbers to unload a trailer. DG is getting off pretty cheap... remember your not in a dock . You could loading with trailer on a hill, slope or leaning in a parking lot. Your unloading in rain, snow or when it’s a 108 outside.
Mileage pay ...You can look at DG Fleet website for mileage pay but it also is below average. I’m not sure what’s going on with the taxes at Dollar General but I pay a lot more here then my previous jobs. I haven’t done any research on it yet. I’m not sure if its my mistake or DG‘S.
Management at DG ...There is a lot , you will be micro managed. There are plenty of managers at DG. They have multiple positions with the word supervisor in it. Which I’m really not sure who my boss is. DG has a easy time with recognizing the mistakes you do but never recognizes the good you do. I feel like there is no point in complaining. I feel like as far as it goes is the local DC. I feel like DG Logistics is lacking leadership at the upper level. I also feel like DG is not serious about a private fleet. I don’t know if DG has a fleet just to keep their dedicated carrier cost down or they need a tax credit...a loss. There are rumors about coming up with different ways of unloading the trucks at stores. That kind of leaves drivers in limbo, then what’s the point of planning to retire here. DG does not feel like a private fleet to me . There is no difference between DG fleet and one of their dedicated carriers. In some ways working for their dedicated carriers is better...same pay, most of the time you're training somebody, two people in a truck, rider policy, pet policy, There is a lot of advantages. There should be perks driving for a private carrier ...there is none at DG. The pay is below average for a private fleet driver.
IMO the local Drivers at the DG fleet do a lot better then the regional drivers. Most of the local drivers come from the DG Warehouse . DG has payed for their CDL training. Local guys are doing pretty good for a local driving position but still are under payed for the job they do. Again I think they make the same or more as regional drivers and they are home every day. Which as a regional driver I really don’t think that is fair pay scale. I heard DG turn over rate for a year is close to 100%. DG CSA score is around 70% So there is no prepass at scales .You will be inspected at a scale house. Dollar General could be an excellent job . It keeps you physically fit, keeps your diving skills sharp. If your a new driver it might be a way to start a new career or it might be a way to end it very quickly. A lot of risk working for dollar general- with average driver pay , pay not nearly enough for the jobs they want you to do

Should be paid hourly , surely you to that into account before you took the job.
Drivers should do more recon on these carriers drivers tasks before hiring on , piece work pay , never.

It’s dollar general, Walmart for skid row. What would make you think anything about that would be “Elite”.

Hey everyone, let’s go to Waffle House! I’ll call and make a reservation!

Couldn’t pay me enough to do this.
Let alone get unpaid and disrespected for all the ######## you went through. No wonder they got 100% turnover rate.

Yeah, 40 an hour, minimum, to even consider thinking about unloading a heap of dollar general junk every single day for the rest of your working life.

But they're probably paying closer to 15.

"But you don't need a gym membership"

    Haha!

I'll go, Frank, as long as you don't try and order blood sausage, like you always do. And for once, can we go during the day? This night stuff is getting old!
