What do you consider good pay and do you figure by the mile or a percentage of every load hauled?

I gross around $2,000/wk. I’m an experienced driver with no tickets/accidents/incidents. I get paid by the hour.

YMMV, but a driver with > 2 years of experience and a clean history should be grossing > $1,500/wk. Location, driving history, preferences for home time and other factors will affect that figure. One of the problems with the industry is there isn’t an easy way for drivers to find out what they’re worth and point them to better opportunities. In the PNW there are union linehaul jobs offering $7,500 signing bonuses just to get drivers. Meanwhile, May Company has plenty of drivers making 27 cpm.

May is a 2nd chance company and hires drivers other companies won't hire. Many drivers like working for May though.

I think if you're worried about whether they'll work with you on family emergencies or what have you, I think you've gotten off on the wrong foot already. You need to cross those bridges, WHEN or IF you get there . You need to understand, all trucking companies.....they're pretty much the same. The only thing that differs is the name on the door.

I hear you but being a new driver, I'm not sure what to expect or what I'm going to run into. I see it as an option for a wise exit strategy if it comes to that. If I get burnt out early and need some space to gather myself I want to know I have that option. I understand they're pretty much the same but it's all still subjective. One see's a half empty cup while the other half full. I won't know for myself until I'm in it. So aside from a real family emergency, which I hope I never encounter, I'm thinking it would be nice to know it's there.

I work for them too, and we have several companies pulling our trailers from Distribution Center to Distribution Center. Years ago I have pulled a Swift trailer, but I think Yellow was repositioning it for swift at the time.

Looks like you have to be a Texas resident to qualify for their CDL training. (According to their website)

The truth is boss you will be burned out in the beginning stages of trucking. Even when you are off duty you are still babysitting the truck. If you are already worried about an exit strategy you are better off sticking with whatever you are doing now. Just my 2 cents.
