New driver here. I’m currently doing food service, been there for a month. I don’t mind the work, but having to learn all the products and constantly digging thru pallets to find products is frustrating. I’m considering switching over to Meadow Gold and trying to deliver milk products. Has anybody done both? I appreciate any advice.

Never done dairy, but with foodservice I can tell you it gets better the longer you do it. The first 3 months is a steep learning curve, but it gets much easier as you start remembering the customers and the products. Having to dig for stuff will probably get better and worse in waves, but it gets easier when you recognize what you’re looking for.
I could never do dairy, having once worked in retail and seen firsthand how a pallet of milk falling over will ruin your day.VIDEODROME and Cardfan89 Thank this. -
I totally understand your frustration and I would definitely feel the same way if I was in your position, but quitting a new job early is not going to help your prospects for getting hired someplace else - especially someplace better. Stick with it for a year and then you will have a lot more options available to you.Gearjammin' Penguin Thanks this.

A month in, you've pushed through some of the worst of it. You will always deal with stupid crap from the warehouse, but once you learn things better everything starts to fall in place better.

I’ve decided to put in my notice and look for other options. There were other red flags also that led to my decision. I really like driving and hope another company will give me a chance to continue gaining experience. I’m still waiting to hear back from the dairy company, had interview last week. -
Ive worked for US foods for the last 10 years. Before that I worked for Byrne Diary in Syracuse, NY for 7 years. Milk is easier work, but more of a pain. Delivering a lot of grocery stores, which means waiting around for store receivers to check in other vendors. Soda, beer, bread, frito lay, sometimes you pull up to a big chain grocery store, and you’re in line behind 3-4 other trucks waiting. After running food service, where you generally drop and run, this kind of work can be a big change.

Thank you. I just had an interview recently with meadow gold. They said I would have the same route daily and would have to do all the ordering for the stores, which is different from food service. How did you like the ordering part?

I’ve been in the milk business before. Good pay for sure. Gonna work for that money though. But if you can do food service, you can move milk.

If it was my neck of the woods I’d do milk only because they work 4 days on three days off
