yesterday broker offered me a load for next day pick up $1200, I said nope not gonna work for me.
    Broker said why?
    Said I need $1500.
Broker said I moved 5 of these loads today for $1200 and to let her know when i change my mind.

I said nope my offer is fair considering how hot the area is load is in.

Today the day goes and I see that load is not being covered, reposted price being raised higher and higher, was $1600 last i checked.

I'm tempted to send broker another email saying I see that load we talked about posted now for $1600, what happened to all those truck willing to do it for $1200?
    Bahhhhahahaha! :laughing8:

I offered $1,200 to haul a concrete block 100 miles. Guy said I was being unreasonable. What he doesn't know, is I just hauled a load of mulch 100 miles for $12/mile for TQL of all people. The broker is out of touch with the current market. Last time a broker gave me that "I have trucks hauling for this rate all day long" line, I just tell them I don't doubt that for a minute, but my truck won't be hauling it for that rate.

With a big smile on your face, and a cheerful voice - you completely skip over the $1250, and say

“Ma’am, we have a truck available right now to book at $1,850 - let us know if we can serve your customer “.

I've been on the exact opposite side of this conversation as a broker, where a carrier sticks to their rate and then calls back later after the load is covered and ends up offering to do it for less than I was originally paying on the load. I won't pull a carrier from a load after we book it (even for a cheaper rate), so they are stuck looking for something else.

It's just the way cookie crumbles, you win some you lose some. It's what makes this industry so interesting.

Not exactly, depends on the market.
I was offering fair amount, I just wanted to go home.

My guess is he stuck by his rate and didn't bow to the broker. So what if the broker moved 5 at $1,200, that just means he got 5 dummies to do it below market rate.

When I hear the whole all day long line I just tell them “Well why are you talking to me then?”. ;)
