I've heard a rumor that all the linehaul runs for LTL/Linehaul companies operating in Florida are done at night because of the traffic congestion in the state. I have yet to find a linehaul driver from Florida who can verify or invalidate this rumor. Is this true or false?
If you're a Linehaul Driver in Florida running for
ABF Freight
FedEx Freight
Old Dominion
SAIA
Estes Trucking
UPS (Union)
I'd appreciate you weighing in on this question.

@Kstrong86 is an LTL Team driver from Orlando. He can address your question from his perspective.

Linehaul is typically done at night because P+D is feeding Linehaul, and Linehaul is feeding the terminals. You’re not finding a daytime line haul job because the few rare ones that are available are probably already taken by a senior member of that terminal
i75 is dead at night, so-so during the day.
i4 is where you get screws in Florida near Disney world. It also sucks in Florida because there’s no direct route from south Florida to Orlando. For example, where I live you have to take SR31 to those cracked out small towns like Bartlow/lakeland into whatever they call that turnpike that then leads into 17 and then i4. You can’t take i75 to i4; I mean you can but you’re adding another 45mins of drive time.

Linehaul for the most part is ran at night. Simply because we feed terminals. The city drivers pick up freight during the day time so when it gets back to terminal it gets broken then us linehaul drivers take it at night to different terminals. If it’s a day run more than likely a senior driver who has 30 years or close to it has that run. So you will never see that run unless you are filling in for him for vacation. And it doesn’t matter what state you are in. It’s like that everywhere.

a nice little explanation would be appreciated. -
Don't fixate on one negative answer. You got a lot of helpful advice in this thread.
Go back and read @Kstrong86 post again.sogolddj, 88 Alpha and ColoradoLinehaul Thank this. -
I’m almost certain that FxF has some daytime linehaul out of Orlando and Jacksonville. Nothing in south Florida because we don’t have any hubs down there.
ColoradoLinehaul Thanks this. -
Bob Dobalina, JadeLove, 88 Alpha and 2 others Thank this.

Also, don’t forget that FedEx plus several others run 2 seniority lists. If you do find a terminal with through bound freight that has day runs you’ll have to work nights for a long time to get one.
ColoradoLinehaul and Gearjammin' Penguin Thank this.
