They might have to do something to improve driver retention, like maybe not acting like a bunch of cornholes.

I tend to disagree with the previous post that said going with Warner, Swift or Western Express is because you can't do better. Not everyone has the same goals as another driver and not everyone wants to be an owner/op running 4000 miles a week, etc.
I don't apologize for anything about going with Swift and I assure you other options were available. I had no 'handicaps' in my past or with myself that limited my choices. Simply put, I liked what Swift has to offer more than the other outfits I looked into. And, it wasn't out of ignorance either. I joined this site in 2012 and didn't start my driving adventure until 2019. During that time, I was here often and learned so much that helped me. Swift's bad rep is mostly regarding what some of their knucklehead drivers have done.
Anyway, I'm still with Swift. They treat me well, haven't lied to me and run me how I want to run. My goals and priorities are probably not the same as most drivers. So, I'm not really interested in what many drivers set as their top priorities. Mine fit me and my situation. Working with Swift has worked well for me. I'm getting closer to the 2 year mark, with a clean record. I now have alot more reasonable options than when I was new. But, really no desire to go elsewhere. Yeah, I could probably make more money elsewhere. But, my wages aren't bad. And, all things considered, I don't have any reasonable expectation I could do better overall anywhere else. So, no desire to leave.
Anyway, didn't mean to go off topic so much. Just get alittle annoyed when other drivers talk about Swift and some of the other megas like they are the worst, have nothing to offer and only an idiot with some problem(s) drive for them. Yeah, I understand many won't fit well with a mega and many may get started with one and then go elsewhere to get their needs and desires better meet. But, it doesn't mean that megas are only bad. BTW, a gal I went to the Swift Academy with ended up switching to Werner not too long after getting here CDL and she was really happy with Werner. Non-related life issues had her walk away from being a driver not too long ago. But, she never had anything bad to say about Werner. So, I tend to think other megas may have things they offer that some drivers like and stay for. Megas aren't for everyone. But, they fit some of us well and not because we can't go elsewhere.
OK, I'll get off my soapbox now.Dockbumper, Rideandrepair and Chinatown Thank this. -
I’m sure I catch a lot of flak behind my back about Big Maude, but I don’t give a rat’s arse. If I’d have wanted some walking toothpick with boobs, I’d have found one.
But how many people can say they got Big Maude? NONE!Crusader66, Rideandrepair, kemosabi49 and 1 other person Thank this. -

I don’t know what Werner pays these days for Trainees. But they used to have a good program. 3 weeks with 3 different Trainers. Flat rate pay per week. Late 90s it was $450 a week. The Trainer got paid his usual pm rate for all miles the Truck ran. Even at .30 cpm they could make $1100-$1500, gross per week. Not bad for the 90’s. Comparable to a Union Gross paycheck. My Father made a decent Living there. He actually enjoyed Training, as a way to help others, who otherwise never made a decent paycheck. He had 20+ yrs experience when He went to Werner. After his Big Money Union Job went out. Said he was tired of Driving Junk, and running like a Dog. He picked Werner, because of the first day Medical coverage, the new equipment, and the available long trips, and good miles. He’d run from coast to coast, all 48. Decided he’d Train, to replace the income he’d been used to making. His last 10 yrs. of Driving was with Werner. He had a new Truck every year, sometimes every 6-7 months. About every 70k-100k mlles, He got one of the first Classics they had. He was an excellent Trainer. I heard it quite a few times from his students. Some had horror stories about previous Trainers. He Taught me the basics in just a few days, and I took my Road Test in his Company Truck, at a third party test site. Cost Me $50. Schools were $3500 at the time. I get it now that I’m older. Nothing gives Me more satisfaction than passing on any Knowledge, that I’ve earned along the way. After He had to stop Driving due to health, he taught at a Local Driving School. Worked 70 hrs. the week he passed away. He truly enjoyed Working, and passing along his knowledge, leaving something behind.
