I passed. Instead of dockworkers, Linehaul drivers and P&D drivers (like any other LTL company) they expect ALL EMPLOYEES to perform any function on any given day. So no regular job or regular hours. You could work days one week doing P&D and then stay up all night driving Linehaul the next. They also have the Only Fans option (driver facing cameras). The only good thing about them is you reach top of scale after 3 years.

 

Also talked to a guy that was with them since their CWF days. Said they hire way more people than they have freight for and if you are at the bottom, you might find yourself running, or you may be sitting at home or on the dock painting bollards.

Maybe his situation is just anecdotal, but I quit my last job over management disrespecting my time. I was expected to make myself available, regardless if they had work for me or not.

It’s better than going OTR to get your Cdl. My advice would be to use them to get your free training and go elsewhere after you fulfill your commitment to them. I worked for them for 4 months and I wouldn’t recommend them to an experienced driver.

 

You'll get hired and work the dock for a month or so to make sure you can cut it. Then a 7-week school that's pretty comprehensive, and you're paid for your time.

Once graduated, you'll be on flex board for day P&D, or night linehaul, until you build some seniority. They'll try to make your schedule consistent on a weekly basis. Dock work is available to pick up hours, and is expected when needed. There are tradeoffs. P&D pays less but you have a life and a regular route after a while. Linehaul is probably easier, but the hours are long and you've got to have the right family situation to do well. Opportunity is there to make some good money, but nothing is going to be handed to you.

It's not a bad company - it is what it is and they pay well and on time. Just like any place else it takes some time to work into a good position. The CDL school is good, and they have the business volume to keep you busy.

Very much a "it is what you make of it" situation. I'm linehaul, pretty new, at a smaller terminal in a large city, and I'm getting high mileage and a steady schedule. My management is alright, benefits are good and cheap, and I have a pretty good time working there because I manage expectations and do what's asked of me with a good attitude.

One thing I'd like to add is regarding cameras.

If you're a safe driver, they're your best friend. They're an inevitable part of driving now, and if people weren't complaining about them it would be something else they can't change.

Camera hate comes from the type of driver that is - thankfully - aging out of the system.

Any barn you find yourself in is going to have drivers that think they're doing the company a favor by driving for it, while at the same time crying about how the company will do anything to screw them. Terminal ########, basically grandfathered in, who sat by and did nothing while the industry turned into something they don't like now; who still collect a check while #####ing about what pays them.

Avoid copying them, drive safely, and you'll have a good career.
