I had to leave Freymiller after driving there for 6 months. I lived on the truck, there were multiple weeks I was getting less than 1500 miles. There is so much sitting. I had to sit in Dallas for 2 days waiting for a load. Their health insurance is very very high. The weekend/night dispatch is useless because there are often times where there is literally just one man who is there at night for everyone. I know many companies have too few people at night but one person for hundreds of people in a reefer company where many pick ups and deliveries are at midnight to 2am is just insane. Something was always wrong with my check as well. Was on the phone with payroll way more than dispatch. They have a breakdown lane that you go into everytime you go into the yard. They changed both my steer tires 4 times in the 6 months I was there, they sure like to keep their trucks in good shape but I find that a bit ridiculous and is a waste of my time/miles. A few good things is that the other freymiller drivers are generally great, their trucks are very nice (ultra lofts petes with fridge, apu, and manual or auto), they pay for reserved parking, do your job and dispatch doesnt bother you.

Pay is actually starting to come down at some of these mega companies. I know because I get text messages what their latest offers are all the time. At the beginning of summer Crete was messaging me they would start me at $.68 per mile with a regional route. Their last text message was $.63 per mile.

There are some really good companies out there that you can make 100,000 a year right but you have to look for them and you have to know who they are and they do not advertise so you have to have an in with them. And expect to be actually interviewed for real. I’m talking like a two hour sit down interview. I know because I just went through one.

driving the way I have at my last company considering that this company actually pays all its accessory pay without question, I would’ve made approximately $96,000 for the year. I would’ve made 64,000 at the last company. That’s a big enough difference to make me jump ship.

if you are a good driver, with a good record, you can find these companies that will pay you very well.

and last it’s really not rocket science to calculate this stuff out. If you’re taking a lot of home time, that’s the biggest factor in your yearly salary. Second biggest factor is how you run. Getting the load there on time all the time isn’t the only factor in setting yourself up to get more miles. If you drive a reefer for example, about 20% of your pay should be in the form of accessory pay throughout the year. If you work for a crappy company that makes you jump hoops, And doesn’t like to pay it, you’re gonna come out about $15,000 less on your salary at the end of the year than you would’ve made at a credible company. Something for a lot of the drivers to think about. Accessory pay is more than just paid it’s the only thing in your toolbox that keeps the company honest with you. If they know you’re a driver who’s going to demand eligible accessory pay they’re gonna treat you straight up. If they think they can get away with not paying you? Then you’re gonna get the short end of the stick every time. With dispatch knows if they leave this driver sitting for six hours, he’s going to make sure he gets that detention pay, they’re gonna keep that driver moving because they don’t wanna pay it. That’s how it works. That’s why I say it’s the only tool you have to keep the company honest with you. To keep you moving. Each and every time you’re eligible for accessory pay you need to make sure and get it. Otherwise they’ll just leave you sitting.

I don’t wanna make $100,000 at a company if I have to stay out 29 out of 30 days of the month. To me there’s no point in that. But I’m comparing apples to apples here. If I’m doing the same job at two different companies and one I’m gonna make $64,000 and the other $96,000 for the exact same work? Of course what do you think I’m going to do

The 1500 miles you had 3 issues regional, bad dm, or your a bad driver and they know it ans give you loads can't mess up I don't know the circumstances. The sitting never happens without knowing circumstances could speculate like did you piss your dm off? There goal keep you moving my dm has my next load ready to accept a day before I even deliver. Every dm in every company plays favorites if you say no or want off time they associate that with I don't want to work we have yard jockeys not the driving yard jockeys either I mean people sit in the yard not wanting make money by doing work but want money sitting on ### talking. The night and weekend shift is a skeleton crew however they warn you to use messages not to call unless emergency. People still flood it with calls. The breakdown lane catches issues to prevent a tow truck cost and keep top notch equipment. 4 steers in 6 months and you never caught the issues in your pretrip? Your steers should have the absolutely best tires because when it goes while driving your going into that direction. They probably saved your life you should have thanked them.
Pay issues common are per diem not understanding it, other are advances you ask money and you have to pay back.
The company has flaws and it's annoying sometimes I hate they have only one terminal and no local anywhere but okc. I wish you luck but man you need to do a pretrip if nothing else your gonna die if that steer goes out and you didn't do a pretrip and you on a mountain. I don't want any driver to get accidents because major accidents result loss jobs, amputation alot times with life changing events and consequences that can remove freedoms.
