Double Brokering is the unauthorized re-brokering of a load to another trucking company. This unauthorized activity is a violation of FMCSA legislation and is considered illegal. Additionally, this fraudulent activity leaves carriers and shippers alike exposed and with no way to mitigate any issues with delays.

You got the delayed end of the stick, but you’re the one in the wrong, right?

    Questions -.

    (619) or (210) area code?

This is a flatbed load - right?

You had a similar situation recently - was that also LS or another broker?

Did you ask what detention/layover was prior to accepting load?

What is your expected / required amount for layover?

Did you ask for an amended FB with your satisfactory layover added, or did you go to nuclear right away?

Are you being honest about your family plans, or do you have another load lined up?

I would cut out the brokers all together in this situation and go straight to your customer at delivery and coordinate the offload directly with them, and deal with all the broker bs once that load is off... Id also tell the broker the only person he will be speaking with if he needs to get in contact with me, is my legal team.... Sounds like you are going to have to fight tooth and nail to get paid on this one...scumbags deserve their day in hell. Sooner rather then later.

Anybody - IF THIS IS TLDR - then go piss up a rope. Here it is as I see it after 7 years with LS.

I'd really like to know @Dave_in_AZ 's take from the van side on this topic.

I've said it before, but I'll lay it out again in the hope others , as BCO's or approved carriers (AC) pick up what I'm laying down to prevent future headaches.

When I started in 2015, @Old Man hipped me to the 'Little John' agencies. He can probably explain better, and correct me if I'm wrong.

LJ agencies were (are) a Bentonville based crowd, all the codes were usually LJA, LJB, LJC etc. Chris Dale is the sales contact, the agent contact will be whoever they sign up. "Pajama agents" was one term used - they simply open up the laptop, receive lists of loads from other brokers - ABF, BNSF, CHR - whomever, and repost the loads to the LS board. I call them 'Cut and Pasters" .

Some of the LJ agents grew to the point where they were trusted with freight from some brokers, and were in the game long enough to actually know the freight and be capable agents, solve problems, have good information, and solve issues like @pavrom is experiencing.

Here's my little story from yesterday.

I leave consignee in MI, start driving south of Detroit for a better position to look for freight in the morning. On the way, A LJ posts a load from Jackson, MI to Borger,TX. I call - "Can you load tonight before 7pm?" I sure can. Re-route and hammer 80 miles there. Call the shipper kid for good truck route in there. It's in a stupid place, he gives me directions that an RGN would have high centered on tracks twice. He knows when I call, but waits until I pull up to the crane - to tell me the load is cancelled.

    ME - "What?"
HIM - "We're going to load it tomorrow"
ME - "So, you want to load me tomorrow?"
NO - "We cancelled the load"
ME - So, I just drove 100 miles for nothing?"

Dumb looks from him. Looks at the ground. says sheepishly - "I'm sorry"

ME - "Yeah - sorry doesn't pay the ##**in' bills around here" . . . and walked off.

They (Westlake) told the LJ agent they wanted 2 flatbeds in there to load by 7pm (at 4pm) - 8 by 8 by 12 'tanks'. They turn out to be round standing tanks, shipper figures it'll be too much hassle to lay the tanks down, so they want 2 RGNs in there the next morning. Shipper can't make up their mind, don't know equipment type - can't run a tape measure. Waste of my time. I call the LJ kid, and he's as pissed as I am. No way he can secure 2 RGNs the next morning on that notice. He sends me a $250 TONU the next morning, of which LS puts their sticky fingers into and I get $187 COLD HARD CASH . . . .

. . . When the shipper pays the bill - probably 3 months from now. I've had ones that take a year. I literally forget about them, and it's a little slice of Christmas cheer when they turn up.

Next morning I go back to almost where I started - so - 225 odd miles for $187. You do the math. Am I happy? Have a guess.

This morning, another LJ agent - Canton, OH to Tulsa,OK. I get the freight bill and there's no phone numbers, seems sketchy to me, I do my own research, phone shipper on the way, get the full scoop, load it, and go. AGENT IS NO HELP. All I get is their dumb "what is your status" phone call after I'm loaded and gone - after emailing a picture of the darned thing in front of the building. 'THEIR CUSTOMER" is requesting the info.

Well - I'm polite, but I ask - "Oh, so Brian that I just talked to at the consignee that has the crane waiting and we've got it sorted is asking - or PENSKE?" (It's all on the BOL, it's not rocket science). PENSKE. Ok - not "YOUR CUSTOMER".

Crap agent training 101 must be "ALWAYS REFER TO THE PREVIOUS BROKER AS YOUR CUSTOMER". Real agents at LS KNOW their customers, loads, locations, purpose, business model, and their own role in the process. Crap agents don't.

Now - I don't know what details you see as an AC. I can see an agent code that I click on to reveal their address, sales agent name, contact info. If I don't recognize the code, but see any of the following -

    Austin Taylor
    Jonathon Renslow
    Artur Akopyan

And a few others - don't bother calling. They have a massive amount of sub agents, of which many don't even reside in the US, that have absolutely no idea what the freight is, and have to call "THEIR CUSTOMER", are too lazy to monitor their posts and take them down when they are covered - (THEY JUST COVERED THAT LOAD - Bs - it was covered 2 days ago, and it ain't your freight).

LS touted 63,000 loads on the board today. Between the covered loads, the same load being reposted by 10 other crap agents, and the ridiculous $1.50/mile loads that nobody wants - the actual load count is more likely 10,000 or less.

It's a crap shoot for the new BCO, let alone a game AC , to find anything of any value in the system.

The best I can tell you is to forget using LS for platform freight unless you want to repeat this situation again. I'd offer to tell you on every load you looked at from LS , who the agent is and whether or not to consider it or not, but at that point you may as well lease on and figure out what I have at this stage.

It's pathetic - but LS will always back these time wasters, because they create revenue.

Hope this helps you - or anyone.

Its a step deck conestoga load
It was different broker ( had similar situation twice ( first time receiver didn't have proper equipment to unload it and i offered to use regular wrecker to offload off my trailer at $700 , broker refused and ended up paying over $2500 , second one sent me to the baltimore knowing that appointment is only the following day , ended up paying $1000 layover after i threatened to deliver the load to riggers and explain the customer why its there )
I never ask detention or layover prior accepting load because i rarely have this situations and most of the time i dont fight to much for detention to save my mood and nerves ... and loading from spot market its not very good thing to discuss detention/layover in this "great" market ( i am sure broker have line of people behind me to book same load ... Probably not this particular one because its for step conestoga)
I dont have expected/required amount for layover because its super rare case for me and i value my time with kids over the weekend more than $500per day sitting ( i believe this is average and i prefer to move on , because i can make more than $500 per day working )
I didn't ask for layover because that was not valid solution for me and considering having almost 24 hours before i show up and heading to the major megapolis i know there are tons of the warehouses and rigging companies and i offered this solution to the broker during my first conversation and i have been super nice at that moment ( i also asked why on my bol listed different broker , he said disregard it - its direct customer ( apparently not and shipper was very surprised as well ) , broker promised to work on the solution and call me back , instead he did email throwing me $500 for 3 days saying that being in trucking business its bad decision to book a load just before family vacation - seems like ton respect for me
... As i mentioned before everyone knew that load will not be delivered on friday because before contract been created between shipper and broker its been clearly explained - no friday sat sun delivery because receiver closed but the load had to go out off the warehouse in pa ... It would be truly great opportunity for someone local in that texas neighborhood coming back home for weekend and have $500 on top of it for nothing ... But not for me based in illinois
.. and can i ask you how it is related me being honest about my family plans in this situation?! ... If i have i load lined up ?! ... It will be lined up before i have this one unloaded or shortly after - always worked for me this way and 99% this plan was working for me , dispatch checked the load board and only reason load wasn't booked because today type of load will be available tomorrow all day long and we will wait for the morning to see if any better pop up .

Not getting into your business - just trying to help.

Sometimes, I've seen drivers concoct a load of reasons to sway their position - me to you, it was just an honest question. Don't ever be offended if I ask you a question, there's nothing in it - tell me to go pound sand if you like.

I do know that specialized equipment like yours generally demands $350 - $400/24 hr in the LS system. TONU seriously needs revision. These are rates from 5 years ago.

479 is the LJ - so , just as I laid out above. PM me the agent name if you like, I know a few of them.

Transload/store it, leave it sit on the trailer - trash the whole dumpster fire, what's the worst they can do - take away your birthday?

OH - Absolutely F*** that response from the agent. Pompous trash. Easy to say from a cubicle.

I had one the other day tell me that "Van and reefer drivers would be thrilled to make $1,000/day" - on a permitted over length load with permits and escorts.

    I managed to say "Thanks" to him/her/it. Via a text dialogue/negotiation. :(
