I don't live in fear, but I also don't ignore reality.
Her doors were locked:
Five years later and still no answers in the strange death of 25 year old female trucker at New Orleans truck stop
This guy presumably had his doors locked.
Arrests made after trucker found murdered on I-26
Story doesn't say if he was shot inside or outside his truck. Does it matter though?
Trucking company of murdered long-haul trucker reflects on loss of ‘colleague and friend’
Another:
Trucker Murdered
And another:
Trucker’s Cameras Capture His Own Murder, Suspect In Custody - TruckersReport.com
And don't stop to help anyone:
Suspect charged in brutal beating death of female truck driver on side of Interstate 59/20
There are plenty more if you do a simple search. I remember one in Idaho where a guy busted the door handle to get inside and beat a driver to death. Idaho, not Memphis.86scotty, tscottme, hope not dumb twucker and 3 others Thank this. -
People seem to forget a lot of trucks use only a handful of generic keys and most are using lock designs that are basically from the 40s still, locks that can be bypassed by even the simplest of tools in seconds. Less if you dont care about damage. Plus a lot of people know we truckers live in these trucks so they are an easy source of expensive easy to flip items like printers, laptops, phones, TVs, qualcoms, tools and more. Plus there is still the old stereotype of us carrying huge wads of cash floating around. Not to mention the value of the unit and its cargo in and of itself. Hell could even be that dude you made wait 2 extra seconds while you sped up decides to come murder you in your sleep as well.
Reality is that 99.99% of people on this board or in general wont be a victim of a violent crime sure. But my view is that is your life worth gambleing you wont be the .01% statistic? Id rather "live my life in fear" knowing reality sucks and taking general easy precautions that take a second or two then live in moron land and risk being the .01%.
At the dude claiming that taking any reasonable precautions is living in fear. My retort is that it must be nice to ignore that reality happens and live in willing knowing ignorance.Lady Kay, tscottme, Bud A. and 1 other person Thank this.
