In this market it's best to stay put, but as for DFW and Texas in general, Tankers are king..You can also do well in LTL but prime schedules come with seniority. You're not going to come out of the gate calling the shots with either choice..

 

Poly Trucking used to pay well. I would assume they still do. They're on the west side (Grand Prairie) and they're private. They haul their own plastics products out and usually grab broker load backhauls back to the DFW area, sometimes back to Houston area or even western Louisiana and then shoot over to Mont Belvieu (another one of their plants) for a transfer load back up to DFW. The nice thing is they pay hub miles, stop pay, fuel where you want (for the most part) and you route yourself (for the most part). The down side is their trucks are not the best maintained. They look great (they get washed every two weeks), but their shop is led by Curly, Moe and Larry, or least it used to be.

 

Mostly depends what you want and where you live in DFW, while everyone in oil knows Midland area is the capital of oil field, Houston for its mega refineries and exports of oils,but DFW plenty of sites to be service. Again, I have no clue where you live in DFW but if you live near the Newtex HQ in Bridgeport, TX they have one other location I forget the location in DFW slips my mind. They have more work to be had then drivers currently. They are also not the only company does oil field and the bulk your pay is gonna be OT they pay hourly I think its $25 base over there they got paid more then the guys in Merzton, TX which was 22 p/h I will say the guys in Bridgeport are more about rules then the boss in mertzon he wouldn't care if the truck caught fire as long the job got done before it was burnt to a crisp.

Keep in mind if it does burn make sure have a good excuse we had one driver have that happen and didn't realize till after then fire department truck not the police saw him and stopped him he then began to release the water thinking would put it out unknown to him there were chemicals that were very very flammable. Thankfully, only a few thousand acres of brushland got burned.

Do your own research obviously but other than Schneider: Foodliner, Texas TransEastern, Gemini, quality carriers, Ruan, Haliburton, Dupre logistics (may need tanker experience before they'll hire). It also never hurts to network with smaller local companies when you get the opportunity. Possibly consider moving to Houston or look for companies out of Houston, Freeport, TX that have a yard in DFW.. hope that helps.
