I swear, I should have told them I was gonna slack off a long time ago. Since Christmas I have ran from Jacksonville to Mt. Crawford, VA, Mt. Crawford back to Jacksonville, Jacksonville to Goodlettsville, TN (Associated Wholesale where I have been unloading since 5 am), after empty here, I wait until 4 am to pick up at Tyson in Goodlettsville going east of Richmond for Friday morning. Picking up at that time of the morning the amateur drunks will be off the road. The load to VA will put me just under 2800 miles. Before I started 'slacking off' I was pushing to get miles and kept getting crappy 300 mile per day or less runs, now that I don't care if I run or not, they're sticking 5-600 mile per day runs on me. Reverse psychology I guess.

Hope everyone has a safe and Happy New Year.

Oh, and I just spoke to Deland... apparently Nebraska is taking their sweet time getting us our 2026 Cab Cards. I was wondering why I hadn't seen any messages about getting them in the truck. Fortunately we have until the end of January for them to "get their poop in a group" (that's a callback reference to a former SPD office person's way of saying "get their #### together")

I saw most of Florida under a cold weather advisory because the wind chill might be below freezing, what an outrage i tell you

"A Cold Weather Advisory is issued for dangerously cold conditions."

Honestly probably the stupidest thing I've ever heard in my entire life. It's winter folks, of course the weather is going to be cold

We feel the same way when you midwesterners come down on vacation in the summer and about pass out because of the heat and humidity...while we're out running around barely breaking a sweat.

As far as the colder weather -

Northern part of the state, 30's a couple days per month in the winter months, acceptable. At home, we've already had as many days below 30 in December as we usually do the whole winter.

Southern part of the state, below 30 and the locals don't even go outside, partially because we just don't have winter clothes because you rarely need it, so we just stay inside. Besides, most homes south of I-4 don't have any kind of heater besides a heat pump that is backed up by heat strips in the units that double it's electric consumption. Plus, you have to watch for falling iguanas, they even have a warning pop up for those. Even the snowbirds consider leaving for a warmer climate.

I had 66 total loads for all of 2024 at SPD. I started here at Shaffer (assigned a truck) March 6, 2025 and had 135 loads as of today. Twice the number of loads in 10 months. Shows how much different things were over there compared to over here, a lot more coast to coast loads back then (pre-W-TFI)
