I probably lose more productivity sitting in construction traffic than I do sitting in a fuel stop line. We also have the option of bypassing a fuel stop and then requesting a new fuel solution. The computer uses your recent average mpg when determining where and how much to fuel (along with other factors). So if I had a string of heavier loads where my mpg is lower, then I get a light load and don't burn the expected amount of fuel then can't fit the amount they want in my tanks. I have had situations where I wouldn't even be able to fit enough fuel to get a shower, so I bypass the stop by 50-75 miles and then rerequest a new fuel solution. It really isn't that big of a deal. And given the fact that I can turn 130,000+ paid miles per year, it really doesn't hurt my productivity in the grand scheme of things. If I am not mistaken, even the much praised FCC tells their company driver where to fuel.

I had my company get onto my case that if I didn't follow fuel solutions better I would lose part of my fuel bonus

To borrow an SSB term, I simply couldn't give two flying fornifications about my bonus. It is the very last thing on my list of why I came back to drive. I don't drive their trucks at the governed speed. I drive 63-65 when I could go 68. I take a decent amount more hometime than the average driver. I'll probably finish the quarter around 27-28k miles and I'm completely okay with that.

It's not that I'm lazy. I'll get up at 2 am or drive until 2 am if needed. I've put in several 10+ hour days of driving since I came back out last Thursday. I just take more hometime than others. My own mental health takes much higher priority than some extra money.

If I drove that slow it would do more harm to my mental health than pushing 650-700 miles a day. I have tried to run at our 65 mph non-cruise governer, it lasted all of 2 or 3 days before I went back to running cruise. If the trucks pulled better at the lower speed, then it wouldn't have been as bad, but at that speed, it's at the very bottom of the power the way they have these trucks geared and locked in economy mode, it starts dropping gears earlier and working harder sooner when pulling a grade.

Got my next preplan. After I drop this in Seymour I head to Columbus, IN and pick up a load that is already loaded going to the Walmart DC in Midway, TN. Just under 400 miles which will put me just over 4000 for the week. Add in the bonus pay, next week's paycheck will gross over $4300.

We must just have different mentalities then. I can't stand driving 68 anymore. Too much BS happens at that speed to raise my blood pressure. I would much rather become a Prime Inc. truck, stay in the right lane, and mind my own business. The load gets there when it gets there.

As for pulling power, that's another thing that I don't really care about. Does my Volvo pull better than our Freightliners? Yes. Does my Volvo have too low of a final drive that it barely spins 1,000 rpm at 63 and I always have to drop it into 11th when going up any appreciable grade? Yes. Do I care? No. If the tranny goes out, that's on their dime, not mine.

Again, the load gets there when it gets there. Going up a hill at 55 as opposed to 60 is the least of my concerns.

The worst part about running 68 when you’re governed at 68 is it’s a fight with all the other 68mph trucks. If you go slower the 68mph trucks have to get around you and if you go faster then you get away from them. A 3mph difference doesn’t amount to anything at the end of the day.

There is always someone governed a single mph faster or slower than you.

    Trucker61016 and 48Packard Thank this.

I just watched the new video about the Gen 5 Crapcadias on Crete's YouTube channel...this thing has a seat sensor that will set the electronic parking brake if it doesn't sense weight in the driver's seat. Given the quality of electronic sensors the past few years, does anyone else see a potential problem with this feature? Especially with today's ultra smooth road surfaces. Hell, TX roads alone with all their whoop-de-dos will have these trucks locking down brakes right and left. And if it's anything like the KW's weight sensing auto-deflate seat sensor that can't make up it's mind on rough roads, it's gonna be hell driving these new trucks. I want my old R-model Mack back.
