I thought a chicken hauler pulled a reefer. Must have been misinformed, its never a good idea to walk beside my wagon if I have a load on they are bad to lift their tail and the stream goes right out one of the air holes in the side

Run the unit on continuous while you're sleeping. Once you reach the setpoint they maintain at a low RPM. The newer units are quieter than an idling motor. Cycle mode that thing will be loud when it cranks up to cool back down. HOWEVER if the outside air temp matches the set point of your load then run it on cycle mode as the unit might not need to start all night. I used to run sour cream from Garland to University Park Illinois @35 degrees and a few times last winter the unit never started once the whole trip.

Bee hauler.. I love it.. yeah we would transport them so the could pollinate... In cooler and cold weather they were pretty inactive.. but when warmer they would be awake and active.. the hives where covered with a big net.. which contained most of the bees.. but there were always a few escape artist...
Pretty easy flatbed gig though.. as the bee keepers loaded and tarpped the load and untarpped and unloaded on the delivery end..

With flated we didn't drop and hook... Is that the same with reefer..

All depends on where you're going to work pulling a reefer what to expect. Where I am we rarely do washouts, it's typically handled by the shipper. Average 1,500 mile length of haul, frequent 200-300 mile bounces. We don't ever deal with produce. About half is drop/hook. Reasonable transit times and appointment times. Grocery warehouses aren't as bad as they used to be, and company pays ALL lumper charges and doesn't want us doing any unloading. Every now and then we'll get a bizarre appointment time. I love it where I'm at, but I can imagine a lot of reefer jobs I wouldn't want any part of. They are not all the same.

All that I pull is reefer. I can say the most important thing is, dont run the reefer with the doors open. Yea, some runs are better than others but.. I can haul dry, frozen, paint, you name it, so how bad is a reefer? Run the thing all night, and you can sleep easier. g/l

I been under a 4 year old Carrier unit the last few days and that thing on heat mode makes the God-awfullest deep sound that rattles the entire sleeper area and actually works to cancel out the FM radio sound when sitting, with the truck off :biggrin_25510:
