Today a driver talked to me on the CB. He had been with Mercer 2 months short of 2 years, said he had to quit, couldn't make any money. He said he couldn't compete with the 4 digit trucks. Now I signed on in 1989 then about 3 year ago sold out, then 9 months later bought another truck and signed back on
I went from a 4 digit number to a zip code. His statement is wrong, an old hand has an advantage, of knowing the system and making it work for him. Freight is not given to old trucks. It is not being run around any body. Mercer want's the new trucks to succeed, the old hands are getting old and tired.
So why do some fail @ Mercer, if it's such a good company.
1. Some people are so far in debt and behind in payments when they lease on. They cannot dig them self out. They should have came to Mercer sooner.
2. Some drivers need a dispatcher to run their truck. They can not make the right decisions
3. Some drivers find they want a dispatcher to run their truck. They can make the right decisions, just find it's easier for a dispatcher to do it.
4. Some drivers just ##### about everything, they will never be happy anywhere.
There are many newer trucks over here that are very happy. Mercer will not baby sit a driver, it's up to the driver.
This is my observation after being here many years. I welcome the new trucks and hope they succeed.

no i don't think he is mr. dollar. but mtoo, i think the 4 digit truck thing is just an excuse for making poor decisions.

i sit here tonite with a 2.58 a mile load from Oklahoma to nitro,wv on the truck reloading for Lakeland,fl at 1.98 and then reloading 10 miles away for 2.20 a mile leaving fl on a 700 mile run. i was #33 on the board and got that load out of florida, must not have been any 4 digit trucks around lol, -

I got a guy that works for me that left Mercer because he said he ran many empty miles out Florida and 85% of the load he moved were regular flatbed loads and heavy. He has a step deck and he only want to do OD/Step Deck loads.
But he also said that depending who you dealt with their preference in that company. But he did say he made ok money. -
Thanks for the responses.

Is it fair to say that...
1.With a little bit of business sense.
2.A willingness to stay out for a few weeks at a time in order to follow the money. 3.Your debt under control.
You can make it at Mercer?sanchez51476 Thanks this.
