Actually, the analogy is apt. Walmart in some communities is also the grocery store. So comparing a small grocery store and Walmart that sells groceries to a owner/op and mega does work. Saying that an o/o can do whatever he wants to make it work is like a small grocery store not obeying health regulations to eke out more profit, whereas Walmart grocery has to follow the rules.
Though I don't buy any groceries from Walmart, especially fresh products.

Mattbnr, to use your own words: "You have a strange way of thinking." You seem to think these regs have the same kind of import as the 10 Commandments. They don't. As an example, there are exceptions granted to entire classes of drivers like those hazmat drivers hauling liquid unstable loads in winter in adverse conditions like ice, snow, wind, fog, etc, that are completely exempt from the HOS rules. They're also exempt while running empty in those same conditions, which is probably even less safe. They can run all of the miles or hours they want w/o penalty of any kind. Is this safe? Apparently the DOT thinks it is, although I've long called for an analysis of their safety records summer vs winter or vs that of other classes of drivers, such as owner operators to prove it. My point is that if these fuel haulers are all "safe" while operating in adverse conditions with unstable hazmat with no regard for the HOS regs, are the regs really necessary for safety or are they there "just because?" The rules as currently written are too rigid. They give no allowance for common sense or situational awareness.
loose_leafs, tsavory and ramblingman Thank this. -
O/Ops are at a disadvantage already but they have failed to shove them out so hence the lobbying of the latest and greatest even though it does not make the roads any safer.ramblingman, Joetro, loose_leafs and 1 other person Thank this. -
Don't take it wrong, I don't run like a mad man and will say no if I'm tired or bad weather or whatever unlike many mega fleet drivers. There is ZERO benefit to my operation by having e-logs, it's just going to add costs.tsavory, ramblingman, mlefler and 1 other person Thank this. -
I have had mega carrier drivers hassle me for going "so f÷¥,+÷ slow" while I'm doing 55 in a 50 in the construction on the Ohio turnpike.
Im so glad those electronic logs are making these trainees run safe and legalShortBusKid Thanks this. -
