You will get used to reefer noise after 27 years i wake up if unit dies when continuous or dont start in certain amount of time when on start/stop. These new units are too quite for me cant hear what units doing (stays on high speed too long something wrong dont defrost often enough ) Get used to the hurry up and wait with reefer if you dont like sitting you will not like hauling produce lol. They dont care how long it takes to load still got del on same time gotta go dont get any fresher sitting on trailer. You would probably be better off staying with van. And detention pay what a joke throw 40-50 at you for sitting if lucky and you have to give them 2 to 4 hours free first dont know about you but when wheels moving my truck should generate more then 50 hour can get more then that pulling sidedump/bellydump/enddump and sitting and waiting so whats wrong picture. Just pointing an obvious screwing they do to dentition pay.
EZ Money Thanks this. -
After 4 hours, you need to call the US Marshall's. They will come out and get your detention pay right there on the spot.
Cranky Yankee, KDT, Flyer and 3 others Thank this. -
I hated meat loads too! Seemed like every time I was in CO I had to wait for meat. Sucked. Once I waited for three days for a new inspection for an export beef load headed to Houston area.
-
Yup. In Greeley Colorado, at JBS/Swift meat, I had to wait 2 days for a load that delivered in LA, Cali. It was cool because the meat was being put on a container headed to China!!
I thought that was pretty cool.
Anyhow, point of the post is.......there is a lot of waiting in the reefer world. -

After reading all these blanket statements/posts from the new breed its no wonder the industry is in the state its in.....sigh
OP,
~run the unit on continuous
~some shippers pay detention some don't depends on a of lot of variables
~sitting is part of trucking sometimes it happens
~hauling meat can be a PIA if that's what most of your freight is better find another outfitRubberduckin, KDT, CallOfTheWild and 4 others Thank this. -
I'm curious, why did you even post this? A new driver asks for advice. Do you have to run people down in order to make you feel better about yourself?
Once upon a time, you were a brand new driver!!
Perhaps its comments like this that make new drivers NOT ask for help.
You stated,"sigh"
I read that, now I'm shaking my head saying "really"?oldtrucker66 Thanks this. -
Maybe you need to read it again...
I offered help to the OP and the new breed comment wasn't directed at him at all..
Its all the stupid new breed comments site wide..
-reefer doesn't pay
-reefer is nothing but sit time
-you don't get paid detention
I could go on and on, but I won't..
now run along..BoostedTeg, CallOfTheWild, TheJrodTest and 3 others Thank this. -
Sorry for the delay in response guys, been busy. I went to a different company better units and actually paid detention. I'm used to it now, but now the problem is...sleeping when they are loading/unloading the trlr...sigh.
