Turbo life

Been wondering the same thing.

 

The short turbo life is mainly because of no quality oil is used. Also, before shut down the engine, allow 40-60 second to idle.

 

Got 575000 and mine melted down. Put a new one on 6000 miles later the new one went out. Defective part, so they say.

 

1.5 mil on my detroit engine with a factory garrett took off & replaced with b/w just cause it was on truck since new 95' I always changed oil at 10,000 used premium oil rotella,delvac,delo & let turbo cool down before shutting engine off. though I remember when the detroit with the 500 h.p. came out they were blowing turbos like crazy. it was a defect in the turbos.

 

1.5m on my N 14, shaft bent from too much back pressure so we replaced muffler at same time

 

1.7 mil on this twin turbo on a C15...she still whistles like a construction worker in Manhattan.

 

779,000 and still going. Always idle for a while before shutting down. Usually flip the engine fan on while in cool down idle as well. Many times in the past rolled into a stop, say a rest area and quickly shut itdown and walked in. Short time later fire the truck up and red shut down lights blinking. Diagnostics said Turbo Acutator. Put 2 plus 2 together noticed this only happened when shutting down hot. No problems since.

 

1.1 million on my twin turbo 05' C15...still chug-a-luggin.
