Big companies now can hire some computer wizard to sit there and "Adjust" their logs as need be, oh, and if you read around here enough, it's already being done. The only reason the big companies want this is they can adjust the logs and there is no paper trail and they can get rid of everyone in the compliance dept. who has to audit people's logs, now it can all be done with a computer. You all are going to have to run a paper log backup anyway. What if 2/3rds of the way through you day you Elog goes out, how are you going to be able to prove your duty status?

I disagree, we don't need any more roll back on hos, I don't consider my 70 hour week to be grueling, in fact it's not enough hours for me personally but a driver has to know how to manage time wisely, I run paper logs legally, my problem with elds is my truck doesn't have an ecm to plug a device into and fmcsa States that the device must be tied into the trucks system, I'll run Elogs but they are not going g to force me out of my lively hood doing so, a new truck is not an option so don't go there, my truck is in better shape than most on the road

From the land line article at http://www.landlinemag.com/Magazine/2014/May/News/FED-electronic-logs-update.aspx on the new proposed ELD rule……..

So there is no way to hide edits made and a company cannot change your drive time under the proposed rule.

Rand McNally TND 760 will NOT work with 2017 Model year vehicles. in 2017 Most Manufacturers moved to a 500K ODB connector from a 250K. The Rand 760 will not work and they have no plans to support the new OBD type 2 connector. so if you plan on getting one of these consider the tractor you may be driving in a few years.
I have 4 of them I bought in the last year and now they are paper weights since I moved my drivers to 2017 Cascadia's. Oh and the new type 2 OBD was mandated in 2011 , so you would think someone there should have known that.....Their advertising doesn't state that

"Wizzard" not required ST.....former manager had password ..... edited drive time all the time. Only way to hit required goals by corporate.

Down side was edit was noted and could not be removed so if raided...would be seen. Carrier banked on way to many motor carriers and too few DOT inspectors to check by and review files. If he tinkers with your Elog a note is placed on the log in QC.

What really hurt him...cut him to the bone was the FMSCA score card. All major chemical mfg's use it and score it to decide if you pull their goods. My guy went after a juicy Oxy contract......would have put us on the map big time......won the sale and closed the deal but was declined for bad scores. Oh he cried like a baby !!!!

Irony : He learned nothing !!! Continued to hire whatever rolled in......10 bald skins and a temperature and you're hired. Hired one....first load to CA.....nailed in AZ.....3 log books and no hazmat endorsement and medical out....then they inspected truck.......ugly, very ugly. AZ fried the driver and impounded truck....paid over a grand to release trailer and load was way late. Receiver ran out of chemical and shut down. Carrier had to pay out big time.

    No sheet....

Was that this week? Arizona is in the midst of Southern Shield I read, something like over 1000 trucks put out of service already and hundreds of driver OOS as well. Coming across I-40 yesterday tons of trucks pulled over getting inspections barely across the foglines. It happened to me a few months ago too, pulled over on the side of the freeway for a Level 2 , he found a a small piece of old hazmat placard and got deep into the trailer and found one pallet not shrink wrapped, OOS for both til I wrapped pallet and scraped off 1 square inch of old haz plac. CSA points all around.

I haven't read all the replies, but the initial post was about Qualcom. I use a free app called Big Road to keep my log. The free app is not tied to your engine and can be used just like a paper log. When ELDs become the rule in December 2017, you can get a subscription to Big Road for $15 per truck and use their Dash Link to connect to the data port and your smart phone or tablet via Bluetooth. The Dash Link is an additional $10 per truck. This is most likely what I will use when that time comes.

You can bet that the feeding frenzy will come where each manufacturer of these systems will be competing for the dollars. The ELD mandate was just passed. In the just under two years before it comes into full effect, there will be a raft of companies trying to bring ELD's out and prices will adjust accordingly. Two years is like 100 years when it comes to electronic technology.
