This is not a question, but a comment. My apologies if I put this in the wrong forum, just didn't see a more appropriate one than this one...
This is a thank you note to this board and its contributors for the great information that is shared here. My husband recently graduated from CDS in Woodford, VA and I began researching companies that he should apply to because I’m the internet savvy one and the natural information junkie. Anyway, this website has been very beneficial, and after starting applications only four days ago my husband will be going to Abilene in Richmond, VA on Monday (we’re in Va. Beach). We did receive a pronto reply from Schneider, but I told him to hold on. Magnum was another company that I was hoping for and maybe will hear back from still. Although, I don't know if he'll change his mind at this point as Abilene was one of the companies that were in our top five as well. As a side note, I also have plans on getting my own CDL this month and joining him as a team in the future, so that may end up being another ball game to consider later. When I do, I'm sure I'll be back scouring this board for more info. and insight from the pros
Anyway, many thanks to @Chinatown, I followed his posts through many threads, @TruckDuo w/ US Xpress, and many others who I can’t remember handles for at the moment, sorry about that.
So, wish us luck. I’ll be more than happy to report his progress and hopefully, mine in the upcoming months. Thank you all again so much, these boards have been an amazing help to us throughout!
Best,
T
Thank you all so much...

Best of luck. This is a great site, and would have loved something like this when I was "rowing" through the companies trying to find a good place to work. So many shysters I drove for, it was trial and error back then, and had no way of knowing until the 1st check bounced. Just be careful what you sign, there are still shyster's out there, just more civilized now, and they "own" you for at least a year. Sign on bonus too. I heard lots of stories, where that doesn't get paid for a year, then they find some stupid reason not to give it to you. Pumpkin has been around a long time, you probably can't go wrong there either. Best of luck.

Best wishes on the new career.

I totally agree about the value of this forum and the opinions and input from the Drivers here helping us newbies out. Priceless!
I started at Abilene last August and have really felt it was the right option for me. (Again thanks to @Chinatown for that list of non mega companies to check out)
Anyway, congrats on him starting Orientation on Monday. I think he will be with a good company.
And I know of three new to OTR Married Teams that all recently started here at Abilene and my wife is also considering joining me later this year as a Team Couple... So it will be a great option for the two of you down the road as well.
A few of us Abilene drivers have a thread here started by JohnBoy a few years ago... Please feel free to join us there if you want to talk to other Abilene Drivers and ask questions of us.
I will drop you a PM with my contact info should either of you wish to contact another relatively new driver at Abilene.
Stay Safe,
MDG13Tomcat Thanks this. -
Here is the thread a few of us hang out on and chat about what's happening and asking questions. Feel free to join us!!!
