Actually nuclear codes are contained on a 8 inch floppy disk from the late 80's time period. The older systems capable of reading these disks are kept deliberately "Stupid" on purpose to defend against the civilian Internet. Military net is a seperate entity from the unsecured net. In some installations a plug for your ethernet cable determines which net you access on the desk by the monitor. One is for the unsecure net and the other is for the milnet.
The Defense Department is relucatnatly looking into upgrading from the 8 inch floppies. But don't worry, if there is a strike required Continuity of Government plus CINCNORAD will ensure launch of those missiles.
If DC is decapitated and NORAD is burning, there is Nightwatch, 4 aircraft on gaurd 24/7 in the air on rotation with the ability to launch. I ever saw one at the morning of 9-11 flying low over DC on live television and thought that would be the day of day's It's a unmarked plane with a blue stripe. You never ever want to hear the call nightwatch repeated three times for real... that would be for millions the last day here on this earth.
Missile delivers heaven or hell 30 minutes gauranteed. Sorry Dominos....
I was looking at the keypad being discussed here and cannot help but wonder if it is a cheap lure bought as a sort of a defense to lure stupid people to punching buttons on the thing connected to nothing at all. Remember sometime ago shops used to sell gag items for entertainment or a deliberate false path to throw off a thief or something.
If you really want in on that keypad try a brute force math starting with the number zero and punching in successive numbers one by one until you either get bored, too much pain or actually hit the right code somewhere in the thousands if not tens of thousands.
Any idea what this is?

Did you miss the 3 photos in post #20? Those 3 will confirm the keypad is, by no means, a gag. Additionally, if you look at the 3rd picture in post #20, you will see the wire loom that goes from the square gray device in picture #2 of that set to the metal strip inside the trailer in the upper right corner of the the 3rd photo.
I'm finished messing with it. Apparently those devices are disabled but because you can hear a tick when you press a digit on the keypad, I don't want to end up re-enabling those things, not realizing nor remembering what the sequence was to enable it and end up preventing the doors to be opened.
It's been an interesting discussion but when I get rid of this trailer, I won't be volunteering to pull another one. The sad thing is, the load I'm on is a direct shipment for the customer, no brokers involved, so I may end up being voluntold to do it again. At least I will be more familiar with all of the gadgets on it.
I just remembered another thing that is different on this trailer verses when I pulled them all those years ago. Fifteen or twenty years ago, 35 gallon fuel tanks for the reefer were common. This thing has a 100 gallon tank. Goes from one side of the trailer to the other.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
Sure thing I thought about the gag thing and could not let it go.
And yes, those reefer 100 gallons would be slurped dry in a couple of days high range in the 110 degree sonora heat of the south west.
Things have improved greatly between the days of the miserable 30 gallon tanks, I used to haul one. Ugh. And I thought that was the cats meow then.
I was fueling that reefer several times faster than I was fueling tractor until I learned to run a hose into my tractor tank and siphon the dam thing to feed reefer to stop the hassle of fueling all the time.88 Alpha Thanks this. -
You do understand you are paying tax on fuel that you do not need to??? Reefer fuel is non-taxable.

Yes sir, I am. I want to offer you a truly heartfelt apology. I want to, but it doesn't seem right, so I won't.

That's too funny

I thought the vent doors were for hauling produce, since many of the mega-reefer companies don't haul fresh produce, maybe that's why they don't have them. As for the vent door being an option, I may need to tell my boss. We don't haul produce, but our trailers have them. However we can't open them because we use the tail wings and they don't have enough of a cutout to open it far enough to even peek inside. Eliminating them could save him some money.88 Alpha Thanks this. -
Old lock box for keeping padlock key safe.

Vent doors on reefer trailers are called "Onion Doors". Most all reefers had a front vent up at the top of the trailer on the drivers side and a lower vent door in the right hand trailer door. They were opened when hauling onions, watermelons and gourd's to get air flow to prevent high humidity in the trailer.
