5th wheel grease

just bring a scrapper and steel some from underneath the trailer next to you. That's real 5th wheel grease.

 

I routinely buy items from Harbor Freight and I have found the quality less than great on some items, other items are great. This may be the best grease available, but who knows. I found on Amazon prime Lucas Red and Tacky for $3.80 a tube shipped to my house if you are willing to by it in bulk. I bought a 30 tube pack which will last me a while. I have heard very good reviews about Lucas products and it is less than Harbor Freight if I looked at it right. Also buy you a rechargeable pistol grip grease gun if you don't already have one. This makes greasing my rig a breeze, along with a headband rechargeable flashlight to see with.

 

That pic of the 5th wheel is a teflon plate (sorta like a huge frying pan on your 5th wheel).

On the 5th wheel surface only, I use the cheapest available. Depending on how many drop/hooks you do, even the best grease available gets squished out. Even if you keep the same trailer, it still works its way out from the twisting back and forth. The place I worked when I 1st got my CDL was a chicken plant, and some of their forklift trucks always hauled the same trailer, and the only time you unhooked was for a visit to the shop for service or repairs, or to grease the 5th wheel. They used a 5 gal bucket of the most sticky grease I ever saw for 5th wheels and it still needed to be reapplied every 2 or 3 weeks on those forklift trucks. And they only ran them to the farms and back, maybe 100-200 miles a day, 5 days a week.

 

Do you have a grease gun that hooks to it? Filling a grease gun manually wouldn't be worth the savings in my opinion. Unless you are strictly talking about greasing the top of the plate with a putty knife.

 

I was going to recommend you just go to Wal Mart. Use Chevron brand. That's the same stuff pro's use to lubricate the moving parts on their heavy equipment. $0.50 extra for the quality of the product that will save you thousands of dollars is only smart business.
If you were a mega carrier, that fifty cents would break your back for sure.
