Here's my solution for keeping my 5th wheel lubricated...

I simply get more grease every time I'm at the terminal....and it's FREE

Try some Lucas slider lube. It doesn't take as much and lasts longer than grease.

it says clean and easy but it's some really sticky stuff, make sure the bottle stays upright and doesn't fall over, it will leak out and make a nasty mess.

I kind of prefer these greaseless options

That's basically what I do to keep it on the bearing surfaces where it belongs.

Since I grease all the grease fittings myself it's just as easy to do the plate with the gun. But whatever works for each person is grest.

i buy the walmart red stuff and dab some on in the sports where it's gone or at first contact when sliding under the trailer. i see people put grease on like they are putting glaze on a roll and 2/3 thirds goes on the catwalk or ground first time they slide under a trailer.....

The greaseless options are OK for some, but not all applications.

Lease company we deal with won't use them, largely due to improper hooking will break the low friction disks, and sand and grit from non paved roads and yards is hard on it, too, the grease tends to trap the grit and take it away as it works out.

I put small amounts on the back half frequently, either from a bucket, or a hand grease gun.

I've seen the auto-greaser system that greases all the zirks that are somewhat stationery...I wonder if the have a system that would connect to a special 5th wheel that has grease ports in the plate so every so often a squirt of grease gets pumped up there and all you have to do is keep the reservoir filled.

That's great idea. Ive seen some zerks on the frame that are routed to hard to reach zerks like clutch/shifter zerks. One for 5th wheel would be great, that way you won't have to drop trailer to grease 5th wheel, great especially for winter months.

Me undoing a few years neglect on a 5th wheel. The rock grooves were packed solid.
    I use moly graphite grease.
