I am getting used to waking up half frozen - so Crete can save 5-7 gallons of fuel, while I'm at 50% operational capacity the next day, some days it's even hard to talk and function. Brilliant operational strategy, sacrifice driver sleep to save money. Increase accident potential.

It's not like the folks at Crete who run operations have their homes set at 25-32 degrees. God forbid, we are just so beneath them. Cattle driver number 2344838383, might as well put a upc bar code on my head so they can scan my head when I visit the terminal

 

What's the problem? Leave the key in the accessory position and see if the bunk heater stays on.
They will pay for your hotel room.

What terminal are you out of? It seems very strange that they are not addressing that issue. I've been with Crete a year now, and I've never had any issue with getting service done to my truck, even if it took a day or two.

 

Opti Idle does not heat your truck. In fact, I have found that even setting the primary thermostat to heat will confuse the truck computer, causing all sorts of weirdness, even when the thermostat is not turned on. Apparently it communicates *something* to the truck computer that the truck computer does not like, due to the opti-idle system not being configured for heating.

Try this:

1) Activate Opti Idle.
2) Activate the big bunk thermostat and use the hot/cold button to switch back to cold setting.
3) Turn off truck.
4) Turn on truck and activate Opti Idle again.
**DO NOT** turn on the main bunk thermostat. Leave it off. It does nothing for heat.
5) Turn on, then activate the Espar heater by pressing the square button twice.
6) Adjust heat to preference. The default heat setting is 72 degrees.

This confused me pretty severely at first too. The APU system in Stevens Transport trucks was capable of both heating and cooling with the primary bunk thermostat. The Espar heater in those trucks was completely separate from the APU system, and could work either with or without it.

Crete's configuration of Opti-Idle system and Espar heater, when properly configured for winter operation, will only turn the engine on if the batteries get low on charge or the oil in the engine gets too cold. When it does turn on, the engine will not activate the bunk heater.

I hope this helps. If it doesn't, call the service department and ask them how to make your truck idle without shutting off so you don't freeze. I've done it by accident a couple times, but don't know what I did. (waking up 4 hours after hitting the bunk with just a sheet, shivering in a 50 degree bunk with A/C blowers pointed at my head.)

If they claim there isn't a way to do it, I may have just glitched it somehow.
